The quite liberal audience and woke film festival organizers were suddenly shocked when a trailer for one of his films featured a character in black face momentarily- all hell broke lose in the booth, “SHUT THIS RACIST DOWN NOW!!! There’s racism and there’s art and this is just racism!” I manned the audio controls for dear life and kept his mic on, Crispin was doing an audience Q&A, noticed the hubbub and even went so far as to say “It is interesting times, and even right this very moment the left is trying to silence free speech as we speak here...”
He is a very dignified guy, certainly peculiar and even wanted to be paid in brand new, sequential 20’s... I quit that film festival immediately after that performance.
