What in God's name made this racist thought pop out of your mind and into the comment section? I'm pretty hard to offend, but I am also of Spanish decent and, believe it or not, I have a backpack. I am as American as you are. My people came from Spain long ago and helped to settle Texas and New Mexico. If trouble ever shows up while you and I are in the same place, I'm going to try to defend you too, my friend. Don't fuel their beliefs on white people.

Which is why we don't have to use force on squatters in Texas. People who take advantage of unpaid rent laws and slow eviction processes is as close as I have seen. Our sheriff's will eventually help them to the door if it comes to that.

My response was only to suggest that the picture is an actual picture not a doctored image. Make of that what you will. I see no conclusions jumped to by that suggestion. My instincts are apart from that suggestion. They begin based on hope. They are then shaped by experience. In my experience, few make it in that world soul intact. None of the latter was alluded to in my initial response.

Good on you too. This phase of life is the most important, and the most enjoyable, to be that dad. When they need a ride, be the driver. Once they let their guard down around you, you get to hear all of the goods from the inside. It gives you a kind of super power in their lives. You learn which of them, including your own, might need a little extra guidance. My kid is twenty-four and his old friends still make comments about how much they appreciated me back then. Plus, it's the perfect use of our most valuable resource. Time.
