The problem a real atheist faces, that he must believe in science and pure materialism, because what else can explain him his being and the world around him? That of course is the reason, we find so many atheists in modern society.
But also the believers of abrahamic religions have a problem, as long as they cannot directly interact with the higher powers and the highest. With interacting I mean not just praying and never getting an answer, because God keeps quiet, I mean seeing God and getting answers, as Moses did. And also believing is not the same as knowing. So they rely on their books and its prophecies.
As a Christian I had these problems too. But then, I studied the teachings of the Buddha, and alas everything is clear and I feel like a bird looking down on these selfmade problems of atheists and sacred book religions. Where comes this difference from? They come from the approach: the teachings of Buddha are purely logical, so you look at facts and reason about it. Once understood you have made half your way, the rest is practice to go beyond your mind into realms the mind cannot go, because of its limits.
So if you ask me today, if space and reality are real, I say NO. It is a dream I like to dream, but there is the possibility of escaping my dreams.
When it comes to ethics, buddhism at its core is just about what Christ said too.

You will find out in the not so distant future. That is the good story.
The bad side is, what if nothing is as you were told by the books: No Jesus there or God to await you. Not even Luzifer awaiting you in hell. You might spend years or decades, before you even realize that you are dead. Or you get tricked in to follow your ancestors, that await you , into the light, just to find out for a second, that is was a trick to force you into another reincarnation.
So if you have no plan before you die, your cards are at odd. I have a plan:
- I know, that death does not exist.
- I expect anything
- I use logic
- I do not follow the crowd.
- everything that changes is not me.
- I can wait.
I do not think that she really believes in God, she looks more like an atheist to me. She can be glad she didn't shoot on the Koran and post it, that would have literally put here in danger of her life.
She kind of made an excuse, and I accept that hoping she learnt her lesson.
Back in 1997 I wrote for Computerword Switzerland an article called "Death of a Harddisk", arguing that eventually every harddisk fails at some point in time. So it is common sense to backup, nothing new! I have since lost many emails from the 90ies etc. And guess what, I do not care. What is really important now, is what I have become, what I know deep inside. Only a few books matter for me anymore, and no, it is not the Bible (although I have many different of it), I now read more buddhist stuff, realizing, that all has been said a long time ago.
Communism in a minute: Karl Marx makes the assumption on page 2 of "the Capital" that if an apple costs a dollar and also a pear costs a dollar, that this is equal. So for him exist only cardinal numbers not ordinal numbers. But in real live, if I give you an apple for a dollar, I value the dollar more than the apple and vice versa. If not so, why would I go into exchange first hand? If the fault is at the beginning, it might be small, but the whole building falls down eventually.
Viruses do not exist. A transmission of a disease functions on a subatomic level. Transmission ist done by Myon Neutrinos. They go thru everything, and if you are on a bus, you transmit and all the people around you as well. And if your immune system is weak, you get sick. Bacteria and parasites of course exist and they are also transmitting. Welcome to the electrical universe.
No one can invade the USA, because of the second amendment. People should be obliged to have arms, except some lunatics. I have my SIG army assault rifle plus a SIG pistol. I am not a shooter, but should anything happen, I can supply a good neighbor my arms.
