Got a friend with that license plate number. I just noticed when I followed him to drop off his truck. Probably a sign 🙂

Dwacw has been good to me, lost money on DWAC, lost everything I put into bbby obviously, lost on AMC, GME, PSQH. Made a little on RUM and got out before it tanked.

Tried to follow intuition and common sense, but thought things wouldn't last this long. About to cash in what I have left in DWAC and warrants to keep a roof over our head for another month, after that....idk.

Hope things work out better for others. Just posting this because I know the feeling and being called names when you're down (literally and figuratively) doesn't help anyone. Hope things work out for you.

Canning class information I found interesting.

Many vinegar producers these days have reduced the products acidity levels to below 5% which is required for safe water canning. Make sure you are getting 5% acid vinegar when canning.

Also the lids used for canning nowadays are being produced with far less zinc, which results in quicker rusting and much potential failure of seals.

Also learned that many counties have free annual heirloom seed giveaways in my state.

In other local news, my city fired it's police chief and deactivated the entire police force until further notice after an investigation by a nearby news station into hiring practices. Big political changes afoot here. Definitely feels like things are happening.

In medicine

In medicine, the phrase is often used for supposedly "magical remedies" which are not likely to work in practice. For instance, in the 2020 COVID-19 outbreak, when double lung transplantation for terminal COVID-19 patients was suggested, it was immediately denounced as a deus ex machina.[22] In 2006, when electronic fetal heart monitoring was being touted as a preventive measure for cerebral palsy, The New England Journal of Medicine, denounced it as deus ex machina.[23]

Jamaal Bowman, the representative who pulled fire alarm to interrupt interim budget vote, claiming he thought it would 'open a door'.

Democratic Representative Jamaal Bowman of New York pulled a fire alarm in a Capitol office building on September 30, 2023, ahead of a crucial, last-minute House vote that ultimately averted a government shutdown. Bowman's office confirmed that he was "rushing to make" the vote and "came to a door that is usually open for votes but today would not open." Multiple sources reported that Bowman was caught on camera pulling the Cannon fire alarm ahead of a motion to adjourn vote as Dems tried to delay the CR vote.

Slave your device to your home or auto sound system via bluetooth and c-r-a-n-k it up loud.

ps:

There's a town near me, Corsicana, Texas. In that town is a bakery, The Collin Street Bakery. A shop known for it's fruitcakes. Stollen, in particular.

The bakery was the recipient of the President's "E" Award.

The bakery was founded in 1896 by August Wiederman, an immigrant from Wiesbaden, Germany With the help of local entrepreneur Tom McElwee, the bakery soon outgrew its original building, and required a new one in which the second floor was turned into a hotel. Celebrities such as Enrico Caruso and Will Rogers were sighted at the bakery, and in 1914 the Ringling Brothers Circus passed through town and ordered dozens of fruitcakes as Christmas gifts to be mailed to friends and family across the globe. In this way, the bakery entered the mail-order business.

Lee William "L. W." McNutt, Sr. (1895-1972), Harry Cook, and Bob Rutherford purchased the bakery in 1946 from August Wiederman.

In reference to the mail order business started in 1947, bakery employees copied names and addresses from a myriad of phone books for "prospecting" list. Lee William McNutt, Jr. (1925-2006), initiated a direct marketing campaign to international customers.

Under his direction, the bakery began accepting orders by mail, phone, fax, and online. He also pioneered the use of a computerized database and fine-tuned shipping methods to make delivery of the cakes more efficient. The third generation CEO, Robert Pritchett "Bob" McNutt (born 1957) has continued to refine all of these methods adopted by his father, L. W. McNutt.

Thomas Max McNutt (born 1990), a graduate of Texas A&M University in College Station, is the bakery vice president. A fourth-generation family member, he ran unsuccessfully for the Texas House of Representatives in the Republican primary election held on March 1, 2016. He lost by 222 votes to the long-term incumbent Byron Cook, also of Corsicana.

Some of its longterm clients are the The Ringling Bros Circus, Monaco's Princess Caroline also places an annual order, continuing her mother, Princess Grace's tradition of a Christmas DeLuxe fruitcake for their family and friends. Hilton Hotels are a longtime customer, as is Master Builders, S.A. of Brussels, Belgium. Also counted in the above group is Madison Square Garden and Vanna White. The company rejected an order from Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini following the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis. The DeLuxe Fruitcake is shipped to all countries except Cuba and Iran.

In 1998, Collin Street Bakery hired a bookkeeper, Sandy Jenkins. Jenkins was promoted to the controller in 2004 when he earned approximately $50,000 per year. Before being caught in 2013, Jenkins embezzled over $17 million. A movie about the scandal starring Will Ferrell and Julianne Moore has been in pre-production since the Covid-19 pandemic began. The film is slated to be titled Fruitcake.
