Like the roughly 50% of the rest of the country. Which is why they had another civil war. Like maybe the 10th one, I don't know. They're always having civil wars over East vs West in that region.
Ukraine in its current -- largest country wholly in Europe -- form is fake and gay and cannot exist as a country. Needs to belong to someone else or be split into about 1/3 pieces of the current size to stay congruent.
Seems like the problem is that the USA wants to be the owner, for whatever fucking reason. I mean I get the natural resource wealth in metals, like Germany/Ausrtia has wanted that since forever, but really, really not worth it.
If you have insight, you should know that the (US-EU sponsored) people who came to power after the coup in 2014 never had a chance in hell at grabbing actual power in a free and democratic fashion. This is 100% obvious from just the voting data. The facts are that Ukraine was always deeply divided and no one side could ever grab complete power and nothing ever got done because half the country spent time bickering with the other half while a bunch of oligarchs robbed everyone blind behind the scenes.
And this isn't a new thing. You can read what the first Ukrainian nationalists wrote like 150 years ago and their message was clear: we need a federated government because trying live together on this territory without massive local autonomy is just not going to work. But no one actually wanted that because it would mean giving up wealth and power to locals in each region.
This is the reason for the civil war. The people's representation was stolen by armed thugs taking power, and the armed thugs from the other camp had something to say about it. A story literally centuries old in that region. Either it is controlled by an outside central power or it falls apart into civil war where some warlord or other tries to grab the whole of it and force everyone to live by his standards.
Calling this whole situation a "free country" is completely disingenuous. It's a failed state where half the population couldn't bear to live with the other half until one side decided they had enough money and arms from outside governments to force the other side into submission.

I'm kinda afraid the US government doesn't actually have a stick big enough to do what it really wants, meaning they'd have to pull out the big guns.
And Russia has more of those (unlike during the Cold War where they had a smaller arsenal most of the time) and newer better ICBMs.
So really the world is hanging on how much patience Putin has, and he is allegedly not a very nice man. The media paints him as an insane maniac, in fact.

All economies are planned economies. The only real difference is the number of groups of people (and how easy it is to join these groups) doing the planning to become filthy rich of the backs of the schmucks who aren't doing the planning.
So if your model of the world is wishing for fake and gay utopian ideas to come to life, it's a retarded model. Model the world as it is, not as you want to to be. Support a system of economic meddling planning that will plan to benefit yourself instead of wishing for imaginary bullshit.
The value of all assets is fake and gay and has nothing to do with actual physical supply and demand.
Multiple orders of magnitude more of all assets are sold than physically exist on any given market. Or even on Earth, probably.
So the price will remain whatever the planners of the economy want it to be until such time they can no longer keep it capped, and then it all goes boom anyway.

The first goal of the war from the NATO side was regime change in Russia.
The second goal, if the first didn't work was to kill as many Ukrainians as possible as this will hurt Russia long-term way more than it will hurt the USA, which it won't at all.
