The story says the two couples were friends, but candidly, I don’t know why 30 year olds with multiple kids were friends with people ten years younger.

Go read Joe Biden’s book “Promises to Keep” which I read in 2015, where he lays out the gist of the story, minus “I was screwing this person BEFORE SHE WAS DIVORCED” but does detail her helping to babysit the kids while she was still married to his friend, and yes, she was friends with the dead wife which was why she was around to help when I needed to be in DC for my new job while the children were still in the hospital.
