China is pretty great for Christianity at least for the Copts, yeah it's still persecuted but the citizens don't give a shit if your Christian or not another Chinese isn't going to snitch on you and as long as you don't make it obvious no one cares. They Copts most times would rather live in China than Egypt because while both persecute them it's worse in Egypt.
I can confirm. I can't go into any details for obvious reasons. But I can relate one strange story.
I work with many Chinese. One of my coworkers who was born in China but became a US Citizen, was helping me write Chinese characters. One day we were alone in a very secure lab. My coworker quickly wrote a word in Chinese on a post-it, showed it to me quickly, asked "Do you know this word", when quickly destroyed it as if it was some sort of conspiracy. The word was GOD. US citizens from China are still fearful if the CCP.
I can also relate a vision I received while in deep intercessory prayer. First I need to explain that I'm a visually oriented autist. I think in topology and pictures so when I'm deep in prayer, it's often not in words.
I had started praying for people who are in bondage to demonic ideologies with the authority given to those who have been adopted through the Blood of the Lamb into GOD's family, in the Name of Jesus. I started off praying for the kids in Portland rioting in the streets. I was pleading the Blood of Jesus over them, binding the demonic forces besetting them, and asking the Holy Spirit to heal their minds. I was praying as the Holy Spirit directed me. Pretty soon I found that I was praying for people in China.
At this point, most of what I was praying for was spiritual and not easily expressible in words. A vision started to resolve in my mind. I couldn't make it out. It was a black field with like bumps. As I was praying, bright blue lights started to appear. As that happened, I saw that I was looking at a huge pile of translucent black marbles. The blue lights were emanating from within the pile. As more blue lights appeared, I could see that they were from marbles that had started to glow. Pretty soon, dark marbles near the glowing ones started to glow.
The Holy Spirit told me that the glowing marbles were the souls of people who opened their hearts to Jesus. Then He told me this was happening in South East China.

Egypt doesn't need missionaries, they have the Coptic church there which the Prot missionaries that go try to pull the people away from the Church for their own denominations which is highly wrong, its a very complicated situation. If your Chinese friend wants to go to Egypt I would recommend that they look into the Coptic Orthodox Church (Oriental Orthodox) before hand.

A huge difference between Christianity and Islam that I love pointing out:
Christianity believes God alone has the power and authority to carry out wrath/justice, as a sinner cannot rightfully cast a stone at another because they also share blame.
Islam believes they will be the ones to slaughter the infidel when the time comes.
I remember watching some underground footage of Christians in China gathering in secret. Imagine risking jail or worse if you were caught but you still were willing to attend a worship service. It was said some of these people have to travel a significant distance just to risk what little freedom they have. It was very powerful to witness.
China has a history of violent christian uprisings. This isn't anything new or a reaction to anything specific. They've been terrified of Christianity for a long time now.
Even so, the CCP doesn't like it when any single group gets that large because it surpasses the CCP membership numbers. Also note that Chinese Christian's are probably not specifying on census forms that they are Christians. Counting an oppressed minority is rather difficult and the numbers probably include many assumptions, extrapolations, and guessing.
