Austin is still on a boil water notice. A ton of people without water. The worst hit are those in apartments. I just heard more people lost power again in Williamson County. All the stores lost power so they had to throw away all of the refrigerated and frozen items. Delivery trucks just started to come in today. The local authorities aren't doing anything. I always have back up food and water but hardly anyone preps. people are out of food and water. The stores are empty. People are pissed. This could get real ugly. Thank God the snow and ice mostly melted today! This has been completely crazy!

$5 a gallon sucks, but you buy once and cry once and then never think about water again. Just find a corner and you're set.

Ordered me a set of the blue ones. I’m on a well. No power means I have no potable running water. I didn’t have running water due to the freeze. I had bottled water to drink and cook with, but taking a pan bath using pool water isn’t the best.
These will be great for hurricanes, freezes, and if the well pump dies which will happen eventually. I’ve seen two of my neighbors have pump failures over the years. It will eventually be my turn.

We keep reverse osmosis then filtered through Alexapure water in old vinegar jugs, at least 50 gallons all year around. Trust me, I live in a bungalow it's small with a half basement we store jugs in the kitchen and some in the basement. We find a place for them as water is essential for life. We have a year of storage food. We preppers who were called crazy just a few years now seem pretty smart. People have to take responsibility for taking care of themselves. You'd think after Katrina people would be more self sufficient, sad but nope. Funny thing is, where we live we have it pretty good as far as no major catastrophe but it can always happen.
Rice, dried beans, dried vegetables. A 50 gallon water storage barrel, water purifier for when you run out of that and a rocket stove. Add a small wood stove to heat a room and you are set.

Sure they might be cold but after a few days without power they won't be below freezing inside. A lot of ppl I know immediately hit up drive thrus when they opened up and got hit by food poisoning.

But it gets even worse. What little power some people did get in the rolling “brownouts” (when everything was black!) they plan on charging $1,500 per/mwh when it’s usually $27.12 per/mwh!! That means a bill for 885 kWh cost $24.12 last month but in a crisis it will cost $1,300!! For a problem THEY caused!! Covid closes business, keystone ends jobs, immigrants get priority for employment OVER Americans, then they FREEZE us, STARVE us, take away WATER and GAS and then FINE US???? WHAT! THE!! HELL!!!!!

It has been rough. ERCOT failed to warn about the potential of blackouts. They knew from 2011 that they had serious issues. Either gross negligence or something more sinister.
My house is back up and running as of today. I had completely drained the water in my house pipes as I remember 1989. I’m in the Houston area. I failed to drain my pool pipes and many of those are broken. I blame ERCOT. Had I known that we would have had more than just rolling blackouts I know I would have made better preparations. And yes I, like others, watched the news leading up to the winter storms. No warnings about the potential of blackouts and the need to take extraordinary measures. Just the usual pipes, plants, pets stuff.
But will you be prepared next time? Please say yes, you'll never be unprepared again. I am sorry you experienced all of this devastation. I am glad you've had your electric restored.
Yes. I ordered swimming pool chlorine tablet floaters to use in the event I can’t get my pool repaired before the warm weather allows algae growth. I’ll have them on hand in case of another power outage. I ordered cans enough to hold 30 gallons of potable water. I’ll probably get some more gas cans just in case. My little generator did a good job, allowing us to make coffee, cook, charge things, run refrigerator/freezer, etc. (not at the same time). The thing sips gas which is a precious commodity in a time of crisis. I have a gas fireplace which sort of kept us warm. (large space and relatively small fire) Perhaps keep more firewood on hand in the event of losing natural gas. I’ll keep more bottled water on hand too. (I luckily had a large package full.)
And of course making sure I know how to drain the pool equipment.
I'm an exec in the energy field, and you are right -- ERCOT screwed this up, not the BidenHarris admin (as many others are trying to say). ERCOT basically took a cost/benefit analysis of whether or not they should freeze-proof their infrastructure, and decided not to do it. In addition they over-relied on unreliable Renewables, shut down too many coal plants, and failed to secure enough NatGas supply.
Its one thing to have your pool pipes freeze...its an entirely more severe and irresponsible thing to have your state's NatGas pipes and wind turbines freeze. All in all, a complete clusterf*ck by ERCOT management.

It sounds exactly like the Biden/Harris administration's fault. All of them are liable if that is accurate.

I agree with you 100% on that. I'm simply just saying it wasn't specifically Xiden's EO (or Huizenga) that caused this issue or prevented ERCOT from fixing it. In fact, the EO gives ERCOT all the authority they needed to solve the crisis, even if they had to go beyond lefty environmental preferences.
I haven't heard that one, although you could easily be correct. If true, it IS something that we can blame the Feds for, unlike many on here who thinks Biden controls the weather and this was all revenge for Texas talking about secession.

Houston is still under a " Boil Water" notice. Half the homes that didn't turn off their water and bleed the water lines... had pipes burst and water damage to their homes. Dozens of homes in my subdivision had that happen.
Stores are out of a lot of items, mainly no bottled water, limited dairy and running short of fresh meat and veggies.

In Oregon, when they tried to recall the Governor she decided to participate with California in the annual “global warming” attack on the populace. Through arsonist she spread fires (fires only start with intense help in Oregon) and highlighted areas that accepted recall signatures. In Aug 2020 the small town of Mapleton was hit. In Jan 2021 they were finally able to stop boiling their water when the repairs to infrastructure were finally complete.
With all the broken pipes, I would not be surprised to see Texas handicapped for months if not longer. May the scales fall from the eyes of the people.
