Tons of people with "learning disabilities" just aren't being taught in a way that stimulates them. People with ADHD often have the ability to absorb and process information super quickly, which means that in a classroom setting you could get all the required information in a compressed 5 minute session instead of having to sit through the entire boring lecture.

I, myself, learn my best by visually watching something. Watching the entire process flow from above helps me visualize every step, and I usually perform the action or task with great success afterwards.

When It comes to more mundane paperwork such as math, or history, often putting things into a game or puzzle for your mind helps the information stick once its inside instead of in one ear and out the other.

Tru to picture yourself learning from the point of view of the teacher.

Really imagine you are teaching the material at the same time you are learning it.

This is easier for Literature and History type lessons but with practice can be helpful with STEM subjects.

My 7th grade Math year our teacher ran away with a kid to Mexico. My 8th grade year our Math teacher was fired My 9th greade year our Math teacher developed cancer and died.

I had 3 solid years of a substitute for math.. I do deeply apologize but I cannot even look at a fraction without my eyes crossing.

Common Core really is the future.

I don't understand the hate for it. Seems to come from a thorough lack of understanding how standardization in education can be good.

As someone who sucks at higher level math, the way most classes teach doesn’t work for me. I do best with visual representations of WHY certain things happen, not just cramming numbers into my head and being told only THAT it happens. Like rolling a circle over 3.14 diameter lengths to show why pi is what it is. I was well out of college before I saw a random internet gif demonstrate that, and it makes sense finally.

I think diet is a good place to start. If an ingredient label takes more than 30 seconds to read and you can't pronounce an ingredient or don't know what it is, don't eat it. Avoid MSG and reduce your gluten intake.

Eat eggs, butter, healthy fats like avacado and olive oil, nuts and of course fruits and veggies. Fish oils are supposed to be good for the mind. I like wild caught salmon and canned tuna or sardines in olive oil.

I think many of these neurological conditions start in the digestive system and draw blood and attention away from proper brain function.

do you have a bad diet and digestive system issues?

Years ago when my kids were young I watched the "Super Size Me" documentary. The Mcdonald's criticism was not what stood out for me. Rather, it was the part where troubled kids were sent to their own school and as an experiment, given a fresh food lunch instead of the typical processed food, and they thrived.

I offered my two children fish oil and coral calcium. That, along with the McDouble before or after ball games. My daughter was a scholar athlete with a 30 ACT. Son scored a 33. My daughter is now a chemical engineer and my son did two in mechanical engineering before dropping out. Not sure what he will do yet. But I feel firmly that we are what we eat.

I agree with your advice. I would only change one thing. Flax seed oil may be a safer and alternative to fish oil as animals store toxins in their fat. My 2 cents worth.

His entire channel is searchable and I suggest you take the information you learn in that one to search for other related health topics. Vitamins, which ones work together, what to include in your diet to get said vitamin from your food, making sure you have proper stomach acid to even break down and the microbiome to absorb the vitamin. It's more than just eating proper food, you need to make sure you aren't eating foods that deplete vitamins (the B's are easily depleted with grain and sugar and B is SO IMPORTANT for ADHD).

Feed your brain proper nutrition. Eat meat and animal fats including butter. Your brain MUST have these fats. Avoid sugar and white flour products. (really should not eat them) Use real organic stevia "O" brand at safeway for instance. Not others that have added alcohol sugars. This stevia is sweet and perfect! Do not, not, not... drink chem sweetened sodas. Doing these things will get you on a good start. If you are feeding your brain garbage, nothing else you do is going to help you much.

Get 8 hours of sleep.

Drink water constantly.

Avoid mass amounts of processed sugar, carbs, and heavy sodium (especially MSG).

Obtain electrolytes.

Take multivitamins.

If you're a musician, use a metronome. (real one, not a phone app or a beeping one)

Exercise.

Cut down the drugs and alcohol.

Stop smoking cigarettes.

Clean your environment.

Organize your environment.

Stay away from toxic/stressful people who knowingly exploit your disability.

Read a book. When you start jumping sentences. Go back and read slowly. This isn't fixed overnight.

Keep asking questions and looking for answers.

Set realistic expectations, followed by a small schedule.

Don't give up.

Several components:

  • Diet (stay properly hydrated, have enough protein, not too much sugar), especially if you're on ADHD medication

  • Find something you're passionate about and make that your world, then all "distractions" will become useful and powerful tangents

  • Meditate. This will help you stay focused and change focus in the long run, along with countless other benefits that aren't immediately relevant to your question.

Also, I'm suspecting that the medical industry completely misunderstands and misclassifies ADHD.

If I absolutely had to bet my life on it, I would say that people with ADHD just use a different approach to problem solving than "neurotypical" people and that's it.

It just so happens that the entire society is set up and run by people running schedules and making up stupid rules, e.g. "neurotypicals".

So obviously the non-neurotypicals will look "weird" in contrast. Ironically, normies tend to be the most dense, regardless of their field.

ADHD is not fake!! It just means your brain developed a little differently. It is a neurodivergence just like autism and developmental trauma. The thing about ADHD though is that it can be thought of under many different labels.

For example, many people in the field believe ADHD is sometimes misdiagnosed when the real culprit is generational trauma/developmental trauma/complex trauma. (Pete Walker, Gabor Mate) not true for everyone, though.

But all of those things can be treated or thought of as a "nervous system dysregulation.".

To answer your question though, I hear that DHA supplements can help ADHD symptoms. I'm taking them but it takes a few months to notice difference.

Develop ways to positively discipline yourself. Imo, most of our modern behavioral flaws stem from missing the proper role models in our development. Thank you progressive movement for dividing our homes.... /s

Set realistic, positive goals and stick to working at them. You only fail if you give up. Learn to forgive yourself when you fall, especially while striving for positive goals. Always work at being better. Small gains matter too. Learn to stack them, over time, you will see the difference.

Your brain needs EPA and DHA, fish oil, to calm down. Do research on Omega-3 oils and ADHD. This is the first step. You need to nourish yourself and stay away from processed foods and especially sugar. Same goes for children, of course.

Walsh Protocol. My kid had learning disabilities, but being homeschooled, she does things her way. Even so, we began doing the Walsh Protocol. Lots of supplememts involved. She's really improved.

As others have said, it all begins in your gut. You might think you're ok, but have never experienced a reset digestive track. If you aren't absorbing enough B vitamins, you'll get brain fog. A celery juice cleanse can reset your stomach.

I have two children who were unable to function in school according to their teachers in 2nd and K grades. The Dr put them on meds and my kids were miserable. We homeschool now and it's not easy, but not medicated and it may take longer to pick stuff up, but they aren't intended to be stuck behind a desk. They want to be outside playing and running around. I'm learning how to teach them still but learning that they don't need to fit into the box. We fit learning to the children at home. They are happier. I would love to hear about suppliments or other activities to help with focus at home. Now that it's warmer out, I intend on doing school outside a little more.

My son has what would be labeled ADHD. Little guy struggles with focus.

Good quality fish oil helps him. I notice a difference when he has it and has not. The Omega 3s help your brain with processing things and are missing from most our diets.

Aromatherapy can help as well.

Diet fatty.

You need to be stable mentally and emotionally throughout the day. Having energy spikes (like a sugar rush) throughout the day will only hinder you.

Get off the quick burning energy sources namely sugar and carbs.

Replace with the slow burning energy that is fat, tons of veggies and good protein.

Fruits have loads of sugar stay away, careful with some veggies as well like carrots.

Avocados are a god damn super food. Good clean fat and potassium.

Deadass cut out sugar and carbs for (insert a doable goal) I'd say at least 5 days minimum. And see how you feel.

I consider most add kids as one or both of the following categories.

Shit diet, and or no self control.

Getting your diet in order takes care of both things at once. Then apply the self control to other areas.

How is your sleep? People who are deep and REM sleep deprived ar more likely to show ADHD symptoms.

For example, people who were diagnosed with ADHD, then later diagnosed with sleep apnea and got it treated, then stopped showing symptoms.
