I explained this on Voat several years ago: Some of you know that I am a Veteran of the Vietnam War. A Former US Marine (MCRD San Diego, Camp Las Pulgas, etc.). I spent 14 months at Balboa Naval Hospital and received my Rolling Ride there. I am not bitter and I am not a "victim"; I am a Marine who happened to get blown up in Hue City, 1968, while leading my men and killing the Enemy.
My feelings about those ( such as this "reporter" and his ilk) are of pity for their ignorance and mental deficiencies. My loathing is for the culture and political inculcation which breeds their misguided thinking. The disgust that fills me most is for the politicians who gladly feast upon the fears of the electorate -- as maggots feed upon feces.
Semper Fidelis is not just a Latin motto -- it is a creed by which ALL loyal American Citizens should live: always faithful to God, Our Republic, our Constitution and our families. If someone attempts to take those tenets of my creed away, I will make them pay with their blood and entrails.
Actually quite the very opposite. Horrible Democrat and Republican leaders put our young men into a position that they did not need to be in. They were drafted in for the most part and it's not like they wanted to do it but the government told them they had to. Show that the government is quite wrong on many aspects of life.
Seriously, and someone like Ali who refused the draft was imprisoned and stripped of his title.
People weren't lining up excited to fight in the war. Our soldiers were sent against their will, exposed to atrocities, and then spat on and treated like shit by their own countrymen.
This is the correct answer. We used to fight wars for freedom, some for manifest destiny. Now we fight proxy wars to line the pockets of billionaires and make the rest of the world hate us.
“Born on the Fourth of July” interesting movie photo choice. Quite insulting possibly lazy choice for the journalist... or is it more?
I keep getting a feeling this freedom day is going to be chock full of independence.

Beautiful, moving, and insightful perspective. Thank you for sharing, friend.
Thank you for your service and this post, friend.
"Wanting to be victims", coming from a group of Leftists, whose whole identity is built on victumhood. Sounds like some projection to me!

No, the ones who wanted to be victims would have been the ones who dodged the draft.
Wow. That's a new low, even for that liberal rag.
Is that not Tom Cruise?
Breaking News. Journalists prove that their scum bags. More at 11
Asshats never heard of Bubba Gump?
Actually it was DEMOCRAT JOHNSON and Republican McNamara who were INTENTIONALLY SELECTING THE LOWEST-IQ SOLDIERS to be SENT to the NAM
and GENOCIDALLY ERADICATED.
THAT'S what was ACTUALLY going on.

Remember that fuck my life site from the early 2000s?
