i have 5 (w/in a 16 yr span) adult kids. first 3 were spanked, last 2 were not. all had time outs. all r great, productive ppl. there r many forms of discipline n ea kid responds differently. imo-parents need to be flexible when it comes to 'measuring out' discipline. what works for one may not work w another.

discipline: derived from the root word discere—”to learn.” to punish or penalize, to train or develop by instruction

Every child is different and needs something different. Totally agree. I think the bigger issue here is lack of parent involvement which means they arent teaching their children the morals and values to be a productive, God loving, America loving citizen. They left it up to the schools 🤦‍♀️

If I ever pissed my father off, I knew I was in deep trouble…. No matter what I did during the day, cleaning my room, even doing the laundry, I knew the clock would turn with him pulling into the garage. My hands would tremble, with pleading eyes I looked at my mother, she had one of those knowing eyes… compassionate but also with a hint of humor. The last words I heard from her before I blanked out was…

“Nothing Can Stop What Is Coming”

There was a short lived prime time cartoon in the early 70s called "Wait til your Father gets Home".

I knew that fear.... and it worked like a charm.

I was raised in a socialist country in Asia. I still got ruler spanked by my teachers until age 15. My 1st year kindergarten teacher hit me with a thick wooden ruler for talking to a friend after class. Corporal punishment is crucial in Asian's culture and it's permitted for teachers to use it on kids. At least during the 90s and early 2000s. I used to have PTSD about getting a B+ on the test, because the teacher (5th grade) would hit me 3 strokes (A-, A, A+) for not getting the full mark. She's a crazy b**** and I still remember her name to this day.

Would I spank my kids if they misbehave? Hell yes. I do not condone beating children black and blue. But a little ass spank when they seriously misbehave after multiple lenient talks is not inappropriate.

Or I can just send them back to Asia for a few years and let the system straightens them out lol

I'm sorry. That truly sucks. Talking about traumatizing childhood (>_>) The only good thing coming out of my nightmarish school years was that I aced college easily (college in the US) lol

Never, ever destroy a kid's video games. That might cause them to snap and hurt whoever did it.

Ive seen breaking peoples things turn the situation into something tyrannical and violent.

It leads to deeper resentment in the long run. At least of it's taken away and hidden somewhere, it can be returned and the mutual respect will be understood.

I had my kids earn every privilege. They did this through good behavior and chores. They were part of the conversation determining the rules. Expectations were clearly explained as were the consequences, both good and bad. My children were taught how to set goals and how to incrementally achieve those goals. They learned the value of money and earned thier own. Corporal punishment was used but sparingly and only for the most egregious transgressions.

My wife and I held ourselves to the same standards. If I promised to do something and didnt the injured party could choose my punishment from an accepted list of actions. These usually were doing that childs chores for the day.

Our children had some control over the process and all three became high achievers over and above their talent levels because they were taught the value of hard work and setting goals.

You have to remain consistent for this process to work. And consistency from their parents, above all else, is what children crave.

I tend to agree. I didn't start rebelling as a child until I was handed bold face lies and empty promises.

In my book, the worst you can do is lie, because of how hard it is to undo.

There is no "one size fits all" approach to raising kids. Go to any prison and ask how many inmates had their asses beat as kids. I'm not saying that it doesn't work in some cases but, if done incorrectly, will lead to bitterness and resentment.

"Father's, provoke not your children to wrath."

In all honesty, a lot of these parents need their asses beat more than their kids.

That is beautiful.

I was just talking to someone about this very thing.

We are from the ass beating generation and remarked how when we were paddled, we got the message loud and clear. I am eternally grateful that I was brought up by my grandparents. They were survivors of the depression and the dust bowl. No nonsense in that house.

Could NOT be more TRUE! Spare the ROD, SPOIL the child!

The generation that got their asses beat created the generation of participation trophies... They were the parents raising the "time out" kids.

Idiots still controlled by deep state propaganda. If it's divisive it's likely not MAGA. Wake up and grow up too while you are at it. I raised four kids. 1. Marsoc Marine (combat vet) nurse, aerospace engineer (army aviation combat vet female) and 4. A computer engjneer. All got spanked and im a tail end of the boomer generation. If you had critical thinking skills you would be so confused.

That's fine man, I'm still blaming YOUR generation for the shit that occurred before I was able to vote. Your generation got complacent and stopped being incolved and now the millenials (your kids and me) and any based Gen z will have to clean it up because, let's face it, you're too fucking old to do shit now besides talk about how great all your kids are for being part of the woke military.

Edit: enjoy your Medicare and social security

It's both. The understanding, yet stern respect for the rules that came from my Father, helped keep my ethics in line when my family fell apart.

It didnt matter what the media or school did afterwards. I had certain hard lines I couldnt cross out of the fear of uncontrollable consequences.
