Yes they do. I tried to send my brother a couple of links about covid a few weeks ago and gmail cut off part of the links. It took 3 times for me to forward the full links.
One way to send links via Gmail is to put them in a WordPad file (it's a basic, crippled version of Word) and attach that file. Gets through every time.

Yeah duckduckgo needs to work on its search results and especially the image search. But on the surface level, if you search for specific keywords that lead down into rabbit holes that you know google will not show you, ddg will show you those results. That's about the only benefit of using ddg.
There are a ton of things now where you search DDG and you get the same crappy results as Google because the site ranking used for returning results is easy to manipulate. Google engineers have clearly figured out the DDG algorithm and have pushed propaganda to the first few pages of results on DDG on many hot-button issues.

I ask “Where’s Hunter?” I rant about the children victimized by the left. I mock Heels Up. I say “what happened to colds and flu?” And on and on and on. I know my tv is listening, too, so it gets questions like “why the F!!! are there no whites in any ads anymore?”
But the thing is, we’re all being monitored constantly and have been for a long time. Since obummer, for sure. I’m a law-abiding citizen. I work, take care of my house. I’m good to people. I’m not racist! I’m all about non violence. So what do they have on me? I’m a vet? Whatever.
At what point does all the data they have on all of us stop being useful? 75 plus plus plus Americans voted for Trump. We’re all on a list. But when does the chatter stop being useful and is just noise? I think it’s a lot of noise for them right now. So much noise.

Gmail storage is shared with Google Drive. The TOS does mention Drive, so I suppose they could use this to justify deleting mail attachments.
