It is funny you mention this. I have always wondered, what if hell is actually the earth, and our path to salvation is to remain true to God's word and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ while rejecting the temptations of the flesh. It is not a judgement day, but a life of judgement. If we hear "well done my good and faithful son", at the end of our lives we get to experience the full glory of God in heaven, but if not we spend an eternity here on earth. If we think earth is bad now, imagine how bad it will be if we spent an eternity here.
