Similar story, i was on a jury and the guy was most likely guilty, but i wanted some more discussion since we are bringing a man's life into the decision. So I asked for everyone to air any gripes they have about the decision. Took us a few hours instead of 10 minutes.
I was on an attempted murder trial in Long Beach, CA. Held up for 2 days by a lady who said she would only vote guilty, because the defendant was black, an ex gang member and she had cops in the family. Finally the jury foreman went to the judge. She was dismissed, substitute juror seated, and not guilty within 1/2 an hour. 3 days of deliberations total if I remember.
Typically, if a jury comes back right away with a verdict it is almost always guilty.
It appears that there are a few on both sides that refuse to budge on their opinion. A hung jury would result in a mistrial and acquittal rates sky rocket if the non-case goes before another jury.
Some of the jurists feel differently than the rest. On the plus side, people like us tend to be really stubborn bastards. Once we know what is right, we accept nothing less.
I understand the nature of your comment but disagree with its presumption. I am free and will defend myself and my family even if I am the only person who believes it.
I've been on lots of juries. The insanity we see now regarding covid and the jab has been demonstrated to me in every jury I sat on. In my experience, you have two or three wackos that band together and buck the majority and stubbornly refuse to budge. The jury foreman must tenaciously argue with the help of the majority to get one of the hold outs to cave. It can be done but it takes patience, persistence, reasoning and deliberation. Once one caves, they all usually fall in line with the majority. Not every time but more often than not. Don't despair, yet.
Yep, I was jury foreman on a gang member's trial. 100% guilty, caught in the act red-handed. I don't even know why it went to trial. We go to deliberate and a few don't want to convict out of compassion, because he seemed like a nice kid.
This should have been a 30 second deliberation. Day two or three of deliberation was a Friday, and everyone was complaining they didn't want to come back on Monday. I said that I'm retired and have no problem returning for however long it takes to get justice served. We ended up getting a unanimous guilty verdict shortly after that.
If they come to a decision quickly, then it'll be said they rushed their decision just so they could go home. If I was in their shoes, I'd be in no rush, either. They have to get this right, both the verdict and the timing of it.
Well it wouldn’t be an opportune time to riot if they did it in the middle of the day. All their actors...er...umm...I mean protestors would still be fast asleep!
Perhaps they want to give the appearance of thoughtful consideration, even if they have their minds made up.
I was on a jury and that’s exactly what we did. Got a free lunch and dinner before rendering our verdict.

I don't like it. If they were a reasonable jury they would've acquitted by now
Or a jury that isn't fearful. They weren't sequestered i understand. If the judge was under protective order I hope the jurors were as well.

Prediction: Kyle walks or at worst, hung jury.
Don’t care much for how they ‘feel’. What do they THINK of the evidence against the defendant.
How they 'feel' is how they choose. People use facts to support the conclusion they have already made.
Very likely a mistrial.
Jackie chiles says the longer they deliberate the better.
Yea, but we're cows with guns.

2 jurors are holdimg up the results cause they are worried about their safety. So if true, mob did not rule.
I hope it isn't a mistrial. That'll hem that poor kid up for awhile. He doesn't deserve that.
Ok i can live with that too.
