Question. Dunning-Kruger Effect is dumb people overestimate how smart they are. What is word or effect or whatnot for people who ARE smart and think whatever the think is right, because they are smart?

Dunning-Kruger Effect is people who are not experienced or experts on a subject/field thinking that they are experts in the subject or over-estimating their competency in a field.
In general the person may be dumb, but DKE is looking at an individual and his competence in his/her knowledge in a field. Paul Krugman is an awesome example of this: Wins the "Nobel Prize in Economics" (this award technically doesn't exist), for his game theory model.
So he thinks he is the best economist ever...when every one of his economic theories/article gets fucking obliterated when applied to the real world showing a complete lack of competency.
In my experience the smartest people I know are the ones who are most aware of how much they do not know. Generally a trait of truly smart people. Those who know a lot, but think they know everything, are simply arrogant, non-self-aware wankers.
A rationalist. This group of people to whom you refer, the ‘intelligent, yet somehow dumb’ are the rationalists. They’re good with logic in general, but have no connection of that logic with reality. Their logic is wasted on statements of fact they’ve received from authorities. They’ve never actually looked at reality. Their head is a tornado of statements and abstractions without any connection to reality. And you will not convince them of anything because they know they’re right, because the axioms they received from authorities are indisputable.
True, but I've known a couple narcissists personally, and it always looked to me like this is where it starts, i.e. that everything else springboards off of this.
The two narcissists I know are actually very smart intellectually, but that causes them to think they're smarter than everyone else about everything, and about a lot of things neither is as smart as they think they are. One of them is one of my sisters, and I've excluded her from my life because I don't want to deal with the drama and conflict she generates.
