Husband was USAF pilot. They are not allowed to fly over CONUS proper that fast (that they create sonic booms) except with prior permission. It is a really big deal for a sonic boom to occur from a military aircraft (excluding exercises on test ranges.)
They are either covering for something or a really big threat happened today that required the pilots to fly full out..
We hear booms all the time, probably once a month or two for the rock quarry near us. There occasionally is a boom like a big gun but we don't know where it comes from in the middle of town. One time my son set off an M-80 his Dad had for decades, in our back yard. The neighbor called the cops, I told my son, turn off all the lights and be very very quiet.πΈπ They looked all around but never found the source. Later on we became really good friends and still are with that neighbor. We told him about it later and he laughed.

Flag of United States#UPDATE: Boeing confirms testing of the new F-15EX Eagle Military Jet caused sonic boom; No danger to the public
At approximately 11:20am, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency was made aware of a large noise and shaking felt by many residents throughout central Illinois. This kicked off an immediate collaboration between federal, state and local officials to identify the impact and source of the incident.
Upon further review, it was determined that an F-15 fighter jet in the airspace above central Illinois course corrected creating a sonic boom. When the aircraft broke the sound barrier, the pressure wave created an audible noise and minor shaking in the region.
At this time there are no reports of damage associated with the incident.
Could have been a sonic boom from a military aircraft thinking they were in the boonies.
I live i. The SW burbs of Chicago and hear booms at 10pm and around 2:30-3am all the time. It's messed up and not normal. I wonder if it's underground stuff going on.
Wonder if there's a website to read seismograph data
Right! Took so long to dig out after the last one... how much is still buried? Did you ever look into the Great Molasses Flood in Boston, 1919? Turns out molasses flows quite fast in the winter. It also does strange things to structures, it is a non-Newtonian fluid, it vibrated wooden structures at such a frequency that they burst into toothpicks and twisted steel like it was butter.
While in that rabbit hole you should look into which companies sprung out of or grew from of the research on the flood. Advanced materials... If I remember correct, DuPont might of been one.
That would be awesome,.. Wonder if you see any info on where Boston, called Bean Town is famous for their baked beans and it is said you can smell them when in certain parts of the city, but the TRUTH is the distinct smell in Boston was from the molasses. The molasses flood seeped into the streets and then spread everywhere because it was so sticky,..people got it on everything! This is what people were smelling all these years! On a hot humid day you CAN STILL SMELL THE MOLASSES near the park (used to be storage yard) where the event happened over 100 years ago.
KEK!!!!
Underground DUMB breached by the Military? If so I hope the children will be saved without casualty or very low if there's any.
Planefag thread talked about sonic boom over Illinois earlier

Urban warfare drills?
Here on the Oregon coast this last week, people were very surprised to experience the same thing. https://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/2021/12/pilot-training-error-caused-sonic-booms-that-rattled-central-oregon-coast-tuesday.html
Quite a bit of that going on the last year. Hopefully it is the underground tunnels being destroyed.

That was my 1st thought... but it doesn't seem to be so.
One DUMB down, untold numbers to go!
Isn't this right where that carbon sucking project terrmar is located?
Cracking in the earth's surface, as is happening all over. The magma underneath is heating up and volcanic activity is as well.
