Exactly! I teach art at a Christian school and as I’m going over the attributes of wool for needle felting, I always mention how Jesus calling us sheep wasn’t a compliment. Sheep are dumb, dirty, and need a shepherd to look after them because they’d never make it on their own.
That is an incorrect/incomplete interpretation of scripture. Sheep, led by a wicked person, can accurately be viewed that way because their innocent following leads to their destruction. However, with Jesus as shepherd, sheep's innocence, trust, and obedience doesn't betray them because it is placed rightfully in the one with perfect love for them that would do them no harm. Telling children Jesus is insulting them to magnify himself comes from a distorted view of God from earthly relationships.
There is nothing in this teachers post implying she's telling kids that Jesus is insulting them to magnify himself. Let scripture declare what is correct and complete, and without distortion: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. Ok, what I typed out from my thoughts did not translate well into print. Just to clarify, when I talk about us being the sheep and Jesus the shepherd, I’m pointing out to them why we need Jesus to lead us because we are lost without Him. My tongue-in-cheek humor fell flat on here, but trust me, I’d be fired if I did not present the Bible or Christ’s teaching in a truthful manner.
