That is a five star article that agrees with something I have been experiencing but did not know how to define.

Summary: We have moved from a past situation where an oral form of communication was predominant to one where a written form of communicatino was most predominant. In the most recent generation(s) we have moved or are moving back to an oral form of communication being predominant.

Persuasive Oral Arguments are considered as having higher value that well reasoned written arguments. An argument presented by an acknowledged respected (by that person) authority will be accepted without question, yet the same argument presented in written form will be ignored as it did not come from an accepted source or perhaps because it did not come in an accepted form (oral preferred over written).

Read Neil Postman. He writes about how the loss of the printing press as the dominant technology, and the switch to TV and now internet, would have many disastrous effects. Idk if he wrote about the TV turning us back to an oral society rather than written word. But the connection makes sense to me.

I would prefer to read as I am more of a visual learner than an audio one. Found this when I started college for the first time at age 36.

I saw some reviews of his book, Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business, on Goodreads. One by Rickeclectic was particularly interesting. In case anyone wants to take a look at the book and reviews: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/74034.Amusing_Ourselves_to_Death

To me having an oral society is natural. I read a lot, but certain things are well-communicated orally. The problem is liars and programmers have an easier time hypnotizing people with the television.

His analysis on why the printing press was so superior to all other dominant technologies is very convincing. I went on a roll and read like 7 of his books a few years back. Amusing ourselves to death is GREAT. Highly recommended.

Yes, another words, we as a society have lost or are losing our critical thinking skills, don't believe in our abilities to do so, so we will believe some moron who calls himself or herself an expert. Which, to me brings us back to 45 putting Fauci center stage during all this in the first place; because, you can't tell them you have to show them.

And here we all are. Notice how many posts are presenting a video. Followed by arguments over which video pundits are reliable, which digital platforms are worthy, and a few scattered pleas for a print source rather than a time-consuming, ephemeral video.

Do you have a source for that?

If you mean, does my post have a source then the source is the article referenced in the initial post. If this was intended for humor then HAHA.

I think it is something far simpler. We are in a post-Truth world. People have been brainwashed into accepting that so many observable facts are incorrect, that the populace was perfectly conditioned to accept anything (ANYTHING) that their programming told them. A simpler way would be to describe them as WokeTards, a form of mental retardation that can be inflicted through the non-stop assault of the Woke agenda. Strangely, history has provided us with the words of Voltaire "Those who can be convinced to believe absurdities, can be convinced to commit atrocities". When a proportion of population can be brow-beaten into accepting that a man is a woman because he says he is - that is an absurdity. And I think when the transgender narrative went mainstream, the NWO knew that the population was ready to be fed the Covid narrative which is an atrocity.

GREAT stuff anon

For example...

A man is a woman = absurdity

Chop off your son's dick and balls and dress him in purple tights with a pink boa = atrocity

Masks block viruses = absurdity

Masks block viruses in only one direction = absurdity

Masks don't work, so you should wear two of what doesn't work = absurdity

Mask mandates = atrocity

Viruses being able to measure and respect distances between people = absurdity

Antisocial distancing requirements, closing down entertainment venues = atrocity

People staying inside more will prevent flu spread = absurdity

Mandating healthy people be locked up to fight a flu virus = atrocity

Locking up businesses, crushing livelihoods and spirits = atrocity

Shot that doesn't prevent illness is still a vaccine = absurdity

Taking four, five, six, ten shots of vaccine to NOT be immune = absurdity

Vaccine mandates = atrocity

Forcing healthy people to get the protection that didn't protect the sick people = atrocity

Asymptomatic transmission = absurdity

Forced vaccinations of toddlers and babies = atrocity

The craziest thing to me is they convinced people of something that doesn’t exist (a virus as defined).

written words can only compel by persuasion. It requires linear ideas that can be perceived by the reader. A particular paragraph can be read multiple times to grasp the meaning of the author. If the logic is flawed, it becomes revealed and the power of persuasion is lost. I do not know a single person that is an avid reader that has succumbed to the broadcast narrative. I'm sure there are some out there, but i do not know any of them.

Also reading requires active participation and attention. While audio/video is much more passive.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– DextertheCat 1 point 4 years ago +1 / -0

The attention span of many is fleeting. This is a part of the difficulty in breaking the hold over the majority of the populace. I'm not sure how this is resolved, it is a puzzle too complex for me to tackle. Even with all the information in hand, the path forward is shrouded in an enormous amount of variables that make choosing the next move extremely risky. I believe this is where super computers have their value. Running millions of scenarios to try and determine the best move going forward is a task that computers can excel at. Even then, you increase your odds, but there is no guarantee.

The author is definitely on to something, but it goes a bit deeper. History and meanings are being altered. Definitions are rewritten and changed in meaning and context. Data is being manipulated to change the narrative and the microwave mentality (20 second attention span) derives the warped synopsis and runs with it. If a perceived "High Priest" has pronounced it, it is gospel. So sayeth the God of Science. The root of the meaning of science has been warped by the religion of science. What has happened to the religions of the world has happened to science. They have used an age old playbook to manipulate and warp a religion to affirm control over a populace and used it on the field of science. The original foundations have been manipulated to make it a "sin" to question the annointed "priests", even self proclaimed priests. This is why mantra's like "follow the science" have lost their depth and meaning and have turned into hypnotic ritualistic utterings. The very foundation of science is to question, research and verify all data. This has been obscured so that only the "priests" can read the holy data and interpret their meanings to the masses. To question the "priests" is heresy and the inquisition is in full swing.

Thank you OP!

Thia felt like an orgasm! Since they started the injections, I have had same feeling as this website prove. They have simply been playing with words!

Aftet download all 3 PDFs, and read step by step what the author say, it tickles many parts on my body.

I'm going to use a yellow highlighter and show this to friends, family, and coworkers. And if they still don't see it, they deserve being Guinea pigs.

Thank you 👍

Very good article. I sent it to my family for us to discuss. Two kiddos ... one loves to read, one hates reading.

It is interesting how that trait reflects in them in many ways. Sadly, one shallow, one a deep thinker.

Dad is not a reader, no matter how many years I’ve tried. Seems it is a weirdly genetic trait, which translates into more of nature versus being able to nurture it.

This makes sense. I have adopted the use of audio books, not because I don't like reading but because of limited time and making use of time (listen in the car). Speaking strictly for myself, the discipline of reading over decades and deconstructing ideas and arguments established a habit in my life. I can apply that to listening to Audio.

Audio over video is preferable to me, unless the visual is required (how to fix xyz). The visual component often interferes with my being able to think about/process what is being said.

Thank you SO much for this comment. That may very well be. Hubby is chemical engineer. He literally aced everything to do with math, but still at a very low level on writing / reading.

Since it is your area, do you have a suggested place to begin for a 14 y o? I’ve tried buying books that I thought would be interesting, based on his interests. But I have never gotten anywhere.

I personally feel reading is so very important and such a helpful life skill.

I HATE reading and have only read 10 books in my life; but if something is important i will make time for it.

Most of the books i have read include 1984, brave new world, farenheit, atlus shrugged etc. I'm trying to get through the most relevant classics.

Blood Meridian as well, which is nothing to do with current day politics bu is my favourite novel of all time lol

Yes it's one of the densest books ever written but my god it is majestic.

I AM passionate about language and writing. Just not sitting down and reading lol. But Cormac's gorgeous descriptions and turns of phrase is haunting.

"God speaks in stones and trees, the bones of things."

"The freedom of birds is an insult to me. I'd have them all in zoos."

"He dances in light and in shadow and he is a great favourite. He never sleeps, the Judge. Oh he is dancing, dancing. He says, that he, will never die."

Just a few of my faves off the top of my head haha. I was thinking of doing an audio reading of it for my youtube channel but the range of western/southern American accents would be tricky for a Brit lol

I deal with this in a weekly basis. The younger generation either don’t believe the written word or never was taught to comprehend the written word. If you can’t Google or have a YouTube video telling them then it must not be true. It’s pathetic.

Thanks so much. First because I've been looking for these three documents. Second because the author's point about verbal vs. written knowledge/ authority has been a big concern of mine for years now. FTA:

As a result, reading, with its need for sustained attention and its requirement that one actively imagine for one’s self what it is the writer is trying to say, was extremely challenging for them.

And because they cannot easily enter into dialogue with the written page, they had little understanding of the sense of power and self-possession that inevitably accrues to those that do.

This right here is why people are "dumbed down" now, dependent on their smartphones. Literacy demands an electronic device. Aside from all speculation about effects of broadcast energy, this need to have a device to disseminate knowledge is crippling imo. You still need to put the info in a printed form to share, yet you are sharing with non-readers, it all has to be reduced to graphics. Why memes are real weapons. But memes are not deep, and the original digital versions can be edited and distorted by those who control media. Figuring out the truth turns into tiresome rewinding of videos and podcasts and endless arguments over pixel representations. Here we are daily questioning reality which was presented to us as a collection of light flashes.
