Ah wisdom from the great catturd, or is it catturd the great?
General Catturd
Admiral Catturd of the Atlantic.
I was a major skeptic of solar. I'd tell the door knocking salesmen that I didn't believe the technology was viable. Then I talked to a hot young sales lady who I couldn't turn away. She showed me the numbers and gave a company guarantee of annual savings, so I went through with it and had 17 panels installed. It's worked out well so far.
That said, we should never consider it a replacement energy source. It's supplemental, nothing more.
" It's supplemental, nothing more." Exactly on target with that.
AND... It's all a blight on the landscape!
I purchased solar panels and I can say with 100% certainty, they are shit.
I'm 100% off grid solar and I can say it is what you make of it. If you're a bit remote like me you need to be your own utility support and electrician. But the benefits are definitely there if you invest in the knowledge and the work.
I'd never go with a grid tied system personally, still too much reliance on the powers that be and too many snake oil salesmen in that space. Right now I have total control over how I want my systems to run for our purposes.
What made them so bad? Don’t you enjoy a minimal electric bill? Disclaimer, not in favor of renewables over clean coal, nat gas, nuclear and the like. But living in the sunshine state I’ve heard they pay off after a couple of years
We had this system put in a couple of years ago. We went in a little blind not really knowing or having anyone that had gone solar. The system did not work properly when it was installed. Unfortunately we were told that we could not go off grid and that we had to sell back to the local electric company. So we have batteries that are supposed to work as our backup during power outages. The system has never worked properly and my electric bills have not dropped. There is always an excuse with the solar company that the problems are with the electric company and then the electric company blames the solar company. The system cost over 60 grand and I have had to get an attorney involved because knowing what I know now I do not want them even on my property at this point. I do know people who have had luck with solar however it has been a complete nightmare for us.
Have you looked into the Tesla PowerWall solutions?
That might have been nice had I not gotten so bamboozled with the 22 worthless paperweights in my backyard. I am now broke and with hyperinflation starting to sky rocket I can't afford anything else. Maybe if the lawyer can get them removed and get some of my money back but I am not looking for a miracle like that to happen. We were idiots trying to do something to help ourselves, the environment and have power for ourselves and my parents in the event of 10 days or more of darkness. But at this point I will be fine without any of it.
Y'all weren't idiots, you were making a good decision that thousands of people have made. There are thieves out there who are very experienced and skilled at trapping good people. It's upsetting, but I'm glad you're getting a lawyer.
Sorry to hear fren, 60K is a hell of a lot of money.
Thanks fren. Yes it is, and there have been many tears shed over it. Hoping for the best outcome but I also know others that have been screwed over by the same company but they have a clause in the paperwork that protects them from class action suits. Evidently they had been sued under a different name, reorganized and changed their name. They protected themselves according to my attorney but at this point they have misrepresented themselves so I may be able to have something done.
Do you mind sharing the company name? I have a few friends who are looking into solar as their homesteads tend to have power outages frequently. The Tesla solutions are solid (as far as I know), but quite expensive, and they are looking into cheaper alternatives.
No one explains shit like Catturd does.
Windmills and parts are made and bought from China!
Produced using coal energy, hehe
It's BS on a macro level at the moment. There are huge benefits to people who are off the grid who don't want any sort of reliance on government controlled electricity. Windmills are great and incredibly easy for the beginner to set up.
However, to power a whole country's power grid? I don't think so. Not until there are more efficient options. I don't know why we're so afraid of nuclear power tbh
It's the opposite actually, I've never been happier to own an electric car. I'm also saving up to install solar panels on my roof. Energy independence is great. You guys have fun with your $10 a gallon gas!
I’ll tell you what, though—this has been one of the BIGGEST RED PILLS for my 20-something know-it-all kids.
I argue with my 23 year old nephew. The basis for almost all his arguments come from fantasy land. Social media has done a number on these kids.
