The government would probably declare that illegal because they can't tax it. Not dooming, just pointing out what is probably reality.

Check your library (public and state) for free access to Scholastic Book Flix, True Flix, Freedom Flix and Science Flix. Gale Mrs. Humblebees Academy, World Book Online, Homeschool at the library (if offered), public library director and former State Library Assistant Director. Plenty of resources out there.

I did it from middle school on working full time and actually going into an office. It was not easy and I wasn’t a single parent (although I essentially was) but both girls are grateful for me doing it. I was able to copy a LOT of curricula/tests/test answers off the web. It would be harder now. I also created syllabi for two AP courses (Human Geography and World History.) As an engineer that about killed me but I am glad I learned those subjects as it is helping me with all the world history that we discuss here - even though I have no idea if any of it is actually true.

Both girls were gymnasts and got their social interaction at practice and with those friends. We are complemented all the time on how great they are. They look people in the eyes, speak and write well, and are exemplary employees. It was worth the sacrifice and the pounds I gained from all of the sitting so much.

Once you separate "daycare" from "school" in your head, the whole landscape changes.

The answers to the questions below can form your decision tree.

• What are the state laws where you are? In my state, a family can homeschool their kids and the kids from one other family. "Tutors" don't count... there are a lot of tutoring services.
• Can you work from home? Can you start your own business? Is your daughter old enough to participate? There are actual curricula that interweave entrepreneurship with other subjects, and the life lessons are invaluable (budget, profit, labor, marketing...), plus whatever the business itself is about.
• Depending on your daughter's age and your own family or friends' ability and willingness to help, you can actually get all the schooling done on nights and weekends. First grade=1 hr/day of book learning; each subsequent year, add 15-20min/day.
• Reach out for help, to groups in your state/region. You will find yourself suddenly surrounded by empathetic moms eager to support. Some may be single too, and mutual partnerships (platonic!) may serve both families.

You can do it! Remember, it's more than a poor education, it's her very soul they're after. God doesn't send us anything we can't handle. Might be hard, but He's in there with us. Go for it, pede!
