This is the best I could do without a tripod. Thought you guys might like to see it.
Stunning! Thanks for the photo. I just got back inside from watching it on the east coast.
Glad you liked it, fren.
Excellent. What power scope?
Would you believe it's a Canon PowerShot SX740HS, with a 40x optical zoom? It's a sweet little digital camera. Had there been more light, I could have gotten a really good pic of the moon.
Yes, it just dawned on me when I saw this and thought about it. Now I'm charging the batteries for the Nikon with a 55-200 lens on it, hoping to get enough juice to catch the last of it. I haven't used it in 6 months, sure enough, both batteries dead.
Beautiful!
Bein in the country I went outside and watched it for a bit. Wasn't much to see since my eyes aren't the greatest lol but did catch a shooting star just in time for a very important wish
I hope you used your wish wisely. In this day and age, you might need it! 😉
One may call it selfish but it's the one I had to go for. All I can say
11:11, 12:12, 5:5
Biblical…
I’m drunk.
10-4 good buddy. 😉
That looks pretty darned good. You must have a very steady hand.
I stabilized the camera as much as I could on top of our outdoor grill. The problem was my own heartbeat. Kek!
Use your arms to create a triangle to support your hands. I think you did amazingly well.
Thanks for the tip, fren. It's surprisingly hard to take good photos of the moon. I've tried using my tripod, but it isn't steady enough. Just pushing the button to take the photo causes enough motion to blur the photo. Not to mention, it's hard to frame the moon using a tripod, as you don't realize how fast it's moving. By the time you're set up, the moon has already moved out of the position you wanted it in.
I haven't used a tripod that much but go to a camera shop and see what they suggest. There are bulbs you can get that will push the button for you. I know you can use a very short delay between clicking and the actual shot, but that won't work with something that's moving. Clicking slowly while concentrating on not moving the camera helps.
Yeah, I've thought the same thing about using a bulb. It's probably the only way you could get the shot. Not sure, though, whether one can be used with the camera I have.
I had a Powershot years ago and I don't know either. Camera shop should know.
I had one of the older Powershots, too. Was the first camera I got after film cameras went out of vogue. It was a small, but good camera that was excellent for taking on trips, as it took up very little space, yet still took really nice photos. It eventually died, so that's what prompted me to get my current camera.
Ironically, the reason I bought this camera was because I had the opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Smithsonian. I wanted a good camera to take photos, knowing I'd never get to do this again. Naturally, COVID-19 hit right before I was to go, so I never got there. It seems unlikely that I'll have a second chance at it, either. Sigh.
Lucky, it's cloudy and we can't see a thing.
Quite frankly, I'm surprised I got to see it. Nine times out of ten, it's cloudy here when there's an eclipse or some other celestial event.
Nice photo!
Thanks, fren!
Beautiful photo. I am Watching right now and it certainly is staying eclipsed longer than usual.
Nice
Magnificent!
Thanks, fren!
Wow beautiful! It is nice to step back and just be in awe of the things God created! And a blood moon to top it off. Signs and warnings from the big guy upstairs!!! 🍿
Amen to that. God is telling us their (the cabals) blood will be spilling soon.
Beautiful photo! Thanks for sharing!
Witnessed it live from the beach, it was amazing!
do you know why it looks like there's a bunch of light from the right? that doesn't like what I would expect if the sun is behind the earth....it looks more like the sun is directly to the right of the moon maybe?
The moon wasn't in full eclipse when I took the shot. Had I waited for the full eclipse, I wouldn't have had enough ambient light from the moon to get the shot.
That was the last sliver of the regular full moon about to be eclipsed by the earths shadow
Flat Moon Theory proved. 🌝
Nah, there's a simpler explanation: the moon wasn't in full eclipse yet. Had I waited for the full eclipse, I wouldn't have had enough light to get the shot.
Couldnt even see it here. Severe storm hit with pea sized hail. Don't know whats more strange, no storm warning, that the radar showed the storm going straight down as opposed to the SE or SW flow it normally takes, or that hours later the hail is still on top of the car (doesnt ice melt?)
This is normally the sort of luck I have with celestial events. I rarely get to see them due to cloud coverage.
I must have checked on the moon too early last night because I saw none of the lunar eclipse, must have happened much later. I got too tired and went to bed.
It began at...11:11 PM ET, so if you weren't up that late, you would not have seen it.
Yep, I went to bed around 10pm, I was so tired from a busy weekend I had to sleep.
