The nickels from 2005 and 2022 have Jefferson facing the right. Washington has had his back to "In God We Trust" on several quarters, I picked up 5 from my change basket. Going back at least to 2000 on New Hampshire quarter.
a simple internet search will show that the words In God We Trust have been behind Washingtons head since at least 2011. I stopped searching after that.
What is different is the orientation of Washington's head - it is facing right instead of left, and that is new.

The new quarters have a cheap feel to them for some reason.
The detail isn’t the same, it’s not as crisp and it looks like knock off play money.
It's all fiat money anyway.
Of course they feel cheap. The amount of nickel in a quarter is worth way more than a quarter, and the pennies, copper is something like 50x the price of a penny.
At this point they should be stamping coins from stainless steel that is alloyed to give it tints for different denominations. It would be much more durable and far easier to handle.
The problem is stainless steel is a super-material. Its the greatest form of metal every created by humanity. Its very, very HARD, and it near perfectly strikes the balance between hardness and elasticity (with that balance moderated by the level of carbon in the alloy for hardness vs elasticity) that is so valuable about tool materials. Its why stainless steel is the go-to material for premium knives and tools.
Its actually the hardest, strongest form of steel currently known. And so would be actually just as hard if not harder than the steel presses used to mint the coins, and harder materials like carbide would shatter under the pressures. And to make it all worse, stainless steel cannot be heated to press it in the presence of air, which will chemically react with it and ruin it, causing forging operations to crack the steel grains, destroying the material.

The 2021 looks fake. I can't find a 2021 quarter, but all the years back to the start of the State quarters have the year on the back side, not on the front.
The photo on the left looks like a pre-2000 quarter that's been photoshopped. Those quarters used a different image of Washington, so there was room under his chin to fit the words. The new quarter used a different image that's larger, just as they enlarged the pictures on paper money. I think "In God We Trust" is required, so they had to squeeze it in where they could around the new larger picture.
I just think it's a bad design overall. Sally Ride is on the back side of the ones I have.
I was just looking for a 2022 in our quarters. I could only find 2021 as the newest, no 2022. The 2021 has the year on the front like the old quarters before the state on the back.
I was looking around online, and one article said that the new quarters are similar to quarters from over 100 years ago so no big deal. But they're wrong. 1920 quarters had a standing figure, not just a head.
They should have put "In God We Trust" across the top of the coin and "Liberty" at the side, as pennies and dimes are.

I am looking at a quarter from 2004 - Texas - that has Washington looking left but "In God We Trust" is behind him on the right.
2021 - Delaware - is the same as the 2021 coin shown above.
At least George is looking in the RIGHT direction now, and GOD has his back.
I have a 2007 and a 2013 State quarter where Washington is also facing away from In God We Trust but is facing Liberty. I suspect this may be the same on all State quarters.
The 2022 quarter definitely has a noticeably different silhouette of Washington.

I see...how do you tell me that the head engraver in the US mint was hired by nepotism and "diversity" without telling me they were an affirmative action hire.
I remember a documentary a while ago, and the head engravers who made the dies for coins where old men in that over 10 year documentary. Its not unreasonable to think they since died, and the people since hired on in the era of affirmative action have since climbed to the more senior role.
And clearly their skills are shit compared the previous generation.
