If you cannot do the time, don't do the crime. She made a mistake and is not taking responsibility for her actions. No one but her put the cannibis oil in her luggage. Why is she crying to an American newpaper for Biden to release her? Guess she cannot come up with an original idea on how to get out of prison. Oh well, as a good liberal she should not complain to the President of the United States to keep her out of a ten year sentence, instead she should have not placed the oil in her luggage. And I bet if she were released to American custody, she would say mean and hateful BLM phrases to the country which she was born in. Liberal first and always, which means she does not accept responsibility for her actions nor is this "strong black woman" proud enough to spend ten years in a Russian prison. Typical liberalism at its finest. She needs to be begging Putin for a pardon, not Biden.
If Trump were President sheโd be home now.
You may not like her, Iโm no fan, but she doesnโt deserve to rot in a russian jail for 10 years for what she did.
Have some humanity.
Like I said, Trump would have made sure she was back by now.
He should have known better after having visited many countries in his lifetime and knowing that different countries have different laws regarding the use of drugs. Went to college did ya? Did you major in gender studies or something of use?
Eh I disagree with you.
No one should be in jail for 10 years for doing what she did.
Again, have some humanity or you sound like the evil people you claim to be against.
When you are a guest in another country, you obey their rules. When you leave the USA, you leave our laws and our way of life behind.
Russia doesn't care whether you're a common person or a superstar. And you, as a guest, don't get to decide whether Russia's laws are fair or not. They are what they are and you travel at your own risk.
Everyone with half of a brain knows that some countries have draconian drug laws. You find out what they are before you enter their country, not after.
Do stupid things, win stupid prizes.
Nah youโre being too harsh
No, just telling it like it is.
Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with the length of the sentence either, but he went to another country and disrespected their laws, not ours. I used to watch "Locked Up Abroad" frequently, and the people who were locked up were violators of another country's drug laws, and those penalties are way worse that penalties in the US. The moral of the story is, "Don't violate the laws of a country you are visiting."
I wonder what the real reason was. I am assuming he/she was a spy
This thought had crossed my mind too which would make sense at why media could spin on a small possession charge to get people worked up around Russia more while empathizing with her.
Obviously speculation but the story just feels fishy though.
Bye Felicia - they are called Laws for a reason!
He has an Adam's apple. It looks like one anyway. Is it a spy?
I've just looked her up to see what she looks like. Wow. She is an incredible 6 ft 9 inches tall, has an Adam's apple, zero breasts, and the waist to hip ratio of a male. She has tattoos covering both arms, wears no makeup, her hair in dreadlocks, wears men's clothes and carries herself like a male. The only thing that has even a hint of female is her face, which sometimes can look female, but often looks male.
But, this is what we don't want to forget. She said: โI honestly feel we should not play the national anthem during our season. I think we should take that much of a stand.โ And she walked off the court when the National anthem played and refused to come out until after it is played on all subsequent games.
Maybe Britney will appreciate American freedom and the flag after a little more time in Russia.
I just looked at the photo too (with the jimi hendrix t shirt) - if she has been incarcerated for months, she has some really sizeable traps, which are large even for a well-trained female. Only thing contradicting it - I don't see masc facial hair - (you know that Russia wouldn't have continued someone on their hormone treatments, because I don't think they even recognize that stuff) and,.. the prison guards would know by now if she is male, and wouldn't be guarding her(him) with females.
I think the photo you reference was when she arrived in Russia and right when she was arrested, so she would have been in fit shape then.
It is nasty inside and out.
Funny that she would use the words "don't forget" when writing to this president.
Ha ha ha good catch and comeback
Perhaps she'll now understand the plight of the Jan 6 political prisoners
Midterm elections coming up. Wouldn't be surprised if she is 'released' in Sept/Oct. This stuff now is the pre-release build up to make more points with the libs when she is released.
I mean no....10 years in Russian prison for a little THC? Because she had different views you want her to endure a cruel and unusual punishment?
Just because other countries have different laws doesn't make the punishment morally right, I think most in this community support and appreciate our constitution, what you outlined would certainly be a violation of the 8th amendment if it were here on US soil.
There could be more to the story we aren't being told than just having a couple weed pens, then that is one thing but otherwise not sure we need to stop to their level.
I don't agree with the whole it was just a little weed. That has nothing to do with this. It's a case of her thinking she was above the law and she was gonna do whatever she wanted to, all because she dribbles a ball for a paycheck. Here's a great rule to live by. Don't do illegal shit in other countries, PERIOD. You do not have the rights that you are given as a citizen of the country you hate. And you are black. Joe dispises you. He's the most outspoken bigot in politics in his lifetime. He ain't gonna help.
Yes I hear you on not poking the bear where you do not have rights buy hopefully this whole experience instills a little patriotism and appreciation for the rights we have in the USA.
You might find its nothing, but the Aussies who got executed in Indonesia/Singapore etc beg to differ.
However, given the timing, I am pretty sure there is more to this story.
I won't be surprised if there is more to the story but you can't compare a smuggling bust of pounds worth of hard drugs to a personal amount of weed resulting in possession.
My point is that cruel and unusual punishment is a human rights violation and I'm not going to actively cheer somebody's being violated because I don't agree with their politics.
10 years for a gram or so is just absurd regardless of what the local laws are.
People spend 20 years in Indonesian prisons for possession. But you can bribe your way out there if done early in the process.
This is the slippery slope left found themselves on until they threw away the constitution!
Aussies are executed in Indonesia for possessing a little bit of weed? WOW!!! Got some examples so I can look into that? Thanks. This is mind blowing.
I cannot find any news that actually says how many hashish cartridges were found in Griner's luggage, but Shapelle Corby was caught with Cannibas in her luggage that she claimed she had no idea someone put in there. She was sentenced to 20 years.
The executions happen routinely, mostly for heroine, like this one in 2015
But it wasn't on US soil. Is the punishment severe? Yes. Is she an idiot? Also yes. At least she didn't get caught in Singapore.
I have mixed emotions on this one. I do think she should be punished because she knew it was illegal. So I donโt feel sorry for her on that one:
But 10 years for a weed pen!
Thatโs crazy!!!
But itโs Russian laws. She should have known!
Right, my point is regardless 10 years is absurd and I'm not going to celebrate that because somebody doesn't share opinions.
