Certain cameras do that.

But EVERYTHING is a conspiracy so this is computer generated. (/sarcasm)

Bloom, flare, bursting, etc. is not acceptable on a space grade telescope.

They don't teach that kind of optics in government schools anymore.

Ooohh, the artist that created this on Photoshop deserves a Hollywood square.

You mean the Earth as we know it. Not the Earth that God has given us.

Yes, the Earth NASA gave us. Though, all will be revealed.

Is this the long awaited James Web image? Cool. 6 trillion dollars for paint splatter wall art. When I don’t doubt their moon landings, maybe I’ll find this crap exciting again.

No, this is just a calibration shot that people are getting excited about because the detail is actually quite impressive.

The JWST should be able to give us actual images of exoplanets. Cool enough for you?

The James Webb Space Telescope is a leap forward for humanity, Republicans and Democrats alike. Don't tell me you buy into any of that flat earth bullcrap. Don't wanna hear it.

This entire movement is predicated on the notion that you/I/we shouldn’t trust everything the government tells us. But now, a highly advanced telescope, years behind schedule, is sending back its first images and we are supposed to take your word and the government’s that it’s all kosher? Lol get out of here, you know nothing Jon snow

There is a healthy and an unhealthy amount of distrust. I'm aware and view everything the government does with skepticism. However I reject the notion that everything from NASA is fraudulent. It's simply too big of a conspiracy to maintain and too easy for a layman with a decent telescope to disprove. This flat earth bullcrap makes us all look like retards and I won't have it.

I saw little bubbles on a stream of a spacewalk.

I saw them pretend that suddenly they could send and receive answers instantly live from the vessel that was too far away for that to be possible.

My big NASA fan friends got really mad at me for asking about that. Like, didn't they say that it takes a lot of hours for a message to travel one way? How can they be doing this live?

So I don't think the telescope cost nearly as much as they claim, they get digital information from the sky and can touch it up as much as they want, the real money went elsewhere.

Oh well excuse us while you won’t have it hahaha. What’s wrong with questioning the validity of this “news”. Question everything brother, don’t walk blindly. If you knew anything about Flat Earth then you’d also know the origin of the term “conspiracy theorist”. If you knew that NASA filmed fake moon landing video while at the same time actually landing on the moon, you’d understand why there is skepticism. It’s ok to believe something with conviction, but you don’t get to run around dictating what others can and can’t do…. “I won’t have it” LolZ clown

You can put a "star filter" over any lens to make points of light do that. Michael Jackson used to request them when he was being photographed.

Not seeing any 6 sided lights in high res hubble images. But I just started looking.

The protruding refractions in the bright star in that picture are created by the hexagonal shaped mirrors used on the James webb telescope. Thats what I know from watching the launch and keeping up with its unfolding and alignment of the array.

When focusing outside of our galaxy, any telescope will do this to items in the "foreground ". What constitutes foreground for the Webb telescope, or the Hubble for that matter, is stars in our own Galaxy that " get in the way" of the far focus view field.

Also the bubbles mirrors are circular so there wouldn’t be any refracting lines protruding form bright objects like the ones from the James Webb picture

It's called a star filter. You can buy them to make a bright light have a star effect with various numbers of points. Notice how every star that is "Beaming" has the same number of points.

Uh, this happened because the Webb was tilting on one axis. It just so happens to help distinguish between stars in the Milky Way and other galaxies.

  1. There are plenty of articles that explain it, even for laymen.
  2. Yes, and the mission is more important - unless you can point to another above-ground agency helping with space exploration.
  3. Also yes, and? Someone hates Jeeeeeeeews....

The rest just make me roll my eyes. All credibility flushed away.

Just gonna note on point 1, lots of articles "explained" how steel can melt from fuel fires and buildings collapse straight the heck down. Twice. Nah, three times. They were super scientific with infographics and charts and everything. I'm still wondering why planes and cars aren't melting down daily.

True, but trying to tie a calibration picture of a new telescope to the star of Remphan is a bridge too far for me.

And even if - big IF - the images were setup to intentiinally generate that effect, so what? Does that detract from the utility of the telescope? No. Does it detract from the wonders we'll see? No. It just means some a-holes are in charge... which is no different from most of history.

100% procedurally generated.

For anyone that spends time gaming... it is OBVIOUS when we see things that have been procedurally generated now.

Those lazy bastards probably didn't create more than 50 of each type of "Galaxy" or "Star".
