Federal job, I work with a guy (who is a supervisor) who said, “if those protestors were black and brown people, they would have fired into the the crowd and killed them all, she got what she deserved”. Of course, he’s black (older too) so he’s protected and no one can do anything about his views or speech. He also says MAGA is “Make America White Again”. The guy probably makes 150k a year, and has for a number of years (20 years in government) former SWAT and former Air Force. He’s as radical as they come and there are thousands more like him in government service.
I’ve known a few like that in govt jobs. Do they select for racists angry people? Somehow I feel like they’re all so angry and depressed. But they have nice paying jobs that don’t seem that hard. At first I thought it was bc they’re underpaid but then I found out how much they make and the bennies. I don’t understand what they’re angry and unhappy about

The egotists that you described would have to be delusional, because they could test their value in the private sector and find that they can’t make anything near as much as they make in government. They’re probably miserable because reality has a bad habit of interrupting. The guilt-stricken ones I described would have more realistic self image.
