I was sweet 16. We didn’t have cable so I saw my first MTV broadcast at a friends house. They used to play music videos, member? That was before their mission changed to brainwashing and corrupting teens.
MTV headquarters in Canada is literally inside of a masonic temple.
MTV stands for Mason TV and it is not our friend. They control the music industry along with Hollywood
Yep, you can almost pinpoint the moment it was commandeered and weaponized as a control mechanism.
Even Beavis and Butthead, on MTV, made fun of MTV, for not showing music videos anymore.
1992 Rock The Vote for Bill Clinton
And thanks for all the trashy reality shows
It was great in the early 80's. Then it changed and I never watched again.
When they used to play music videos.
HeadBangers Ball was the best thing they ever had going on imo.
Dyer straights anyone????
I want my MTV!
Pat Benatar and Mister Mister....
Dire...
That's right lol
time for the midlife crisis
I honestly preferred the lull period in the early 2000s when the network was completely inoffensive.
An hour or two of music videos and a lot of cheesy, ultimately innocent dating shows like Next, Room Raiders, and Dismissed. The early years of My Super Sweet 16 were also rather absurd. The last great and relevant show on MTV was Pimp My Ride and soon as that ended I was completely done watching MTV in any capacity
MTV from 2003-2008 was as heteronormative and American as the channel ever got. It was pure popcorn and had no agenda. The death of TRL a week after Obama won his first term was no coincidence to me. The network very quickly shifted to nihilist and divisive programming like Jersey Shore, Teen Mom, 16 and Pregnant, and I Used to be Fat
I remember seeing a commercial on MTV around 2009 for some show (Weed Heads, Weed something...?) where some butch teenage girl was bragging about having "sex" with some other girl and showed some of it in the commercial, ugh ("sex" is impossible between the same sexes, it would just be fornication, but I digress) and how "great" it was, blah blah blah. Needless to say I was immensely grossed out and never clicked on that channel again. They were pushing for extreme gay acceptance even back then, but maybe this was par for the course for MTV.
Not sure why this is posted here, but that's hilarious.
I was 6 when that channel started. My earliest memories of music videos, as far as songs that I thought were cool, were Eminence Front by The Who, New Years Day by U2, and whatever that Duran Duran song was "Please Please Tell me Now" ?
Maybe Beavis and Butthead killed the mystique of music videos so much that MtV management was like "we need a new product"
All I can say is: 41 Ughs.
Palladia was better. For as long as that lasted.
Truth..
