Yeah, chickens poke around the yard, but mostly they eat scratch that comes from commercial feed suppliers. Yes, even backyard chicken owners use this. So, if there's lead in the chickens, it's probably in their scratch, which means it was probably put there. That's what should be investigated.
At least most of the comments in that thread are pointing out that the study says chickens in urban areas have higher lead levels. There's still lead contamination from all the lead paint, leaded gasoline, and lead pipes. If you're out in the country your backyard produce and livestock won't be as exposed to lead.

The only thing that contains more lead than my backyard hens' eggs is the person who trespasses to try and take them away from me.
Even if that were true of some backyard eggs, most backyard eggs are not full of chemicals. That would be the non-organic eggs.
