No wonder back in the day they put money into their mattresses and did not trust banks.
BUT now they are also trying to do away with cash!
I was thinking essentially the same thing! Money under the mattress, no trust for banks. Gee, maybe they knew something we didn't. I wonder if there's such a thing as a fire proof safe? Since keeping it in a bank means nothing in terms of hedging inflation, might as well keep it at home if you can (and you're lucky to have enough to worry about, lol)
All safes have fire ratings on them which tell you how long the contents will be protected during a fire. A lot of people have been buying gold and silver to protect themselves from the corrupt banks and governments.
Oh interesting, thanks.
In an emergency silver is best to be used as currency since people won't be able to make change for gold.
Yeah, I've wondered about that. I've heard there are bars that are perforated so you can break off a little bit. But I've also heard they are waaayyyy more expensive.
They need to make silver dimes and dollars again!
No kidding.
Breakable 100 Gram Valcambi Silver CombiBar (100x1g w Assay) As low as: $212.09
Solid Bar 100 Gram Valcambi Silver Bar (New w Assay) As low as: $163.00
100 Gram Silver (Varied Condition, Any Mint, Various Forms) As low as: $107.49
One Troy Ounce of silver is 32 grams. Silver is selling at about $25 an ounce now. During an emergency that will easily double so call it 50 bucks. These 100 gram perforated sheets run about $1.50 per gram for a little more than 3 ounces. I would guess these will easily trade at $5 per gram during an emergency so I would say they and not really overpriced for emergency purposes.

I have a fire proof safe.
Would you mind telling me the make / model? I'm curious because I thought I heard at one time that there really was no such thing, so it's good to hear they do exist.
I'll look and see but it's stashed so takes some work to get at it. I may be wrong but I can tell you it's heavy as hell, like it has major thickness to keep it from burning up. I'll get back to you.
Oh thank you. Don't go to any special trouble. I wouldn't have asked if I'd known it was in an out of the way place. Thanks though, fren.
just kinda hidden, stuff piled on top.
Lol. I understand.
Most gun safes are fire proof. We’ve had a Cannon gun safe for twenty years. When I found out it was fire proof hubby lost gun storage space. We need another one! It’s worth the investment. It took four strong men to get it in the house.
Thank you for that info. I do know they are incredibly heavy. And kind of expensive, too. But that is probably something a person could buy second hand, if they can find a good brand. Appreciate the comment, fren.
When did £2,000 become a "large cash transaction"? I was a bank teller in the 1980s and we only asked customers to give us a heads up if they wanted $10,000 or more in cash because we only kept $250,000 on hand.
Declined transaction = closed account.
Sounds woke, hope they go broke. Close those accounts.
Hedgies r fukt.
everyone laughs at me when I say my savings account is a Mason jar buried near the tree with the X...
This bank is in UK. Do banks in UK, Europe have ATMs like USA banks?

The key is to not have more than $2000 in any one savings account. During a government ‘bail in’ (as opposed to a ‘bail out’) the government can confiscate any amount OVER $2000.
Right there I would be calling for the Manager and closing "ALL" my accounts!
I’ve followed this dachshund “hotel” in UK for many years. They posted on social media. A few weeks ago they lost access to their bank account, Loyd’s. I don’t know if this was a one time incident or multiple accounts.

Say my buddy just got out of prison so we’re buying a bunch of hookers and blow.
It's MY money and I need it NOW!
Sorry, couldn't resist
Their logo is a lot like PNC Bank. Weird.
It's none of their business! I will withdraw it all and forgo their piddly interest. Fascists!
My father fell for the Amazon scam. A caller told him to withdraw all of his money and put it into Bitcoin. He withdrew all of his savings, leaving just enough to cover electronic payments. Thankfully he wised up before the bitcoin purchase, but it could have been stopped much earlier if the teller had asked questions, or asked for an invoice. I don’t have a problem with this if it’s used as fraud prevention.
They will start doing this in more and more places as they prepare for the collapse of the banking system.
