Princess Diana received the royal burial that the queen was supposed to receive. It is said in some articles that Princess Diana was the precursor to the queens death procession. They tried it out on her first basically.
Watch some of the BBC coverage. Their website has it for free, no sign-on or anything required. It's really quite beautful and moving, no matter who's funeral it might be.
Open casket funerals are not common in the UK. The USA is one of the few places that commonly does this. Not sure why.
The settings have actually been beautiful and dignified. The lighting is harsh in the picture above.
I'll give you that the flag looks wrinkled. However, they have been moving the old girl around quite a bit so the flag has gotten a lot of handling (it never leaves the coffin.) I don't know what it's made of, but if by chance it's linen that might explain it. Linen wrinkles very easily, especially in a damp climate with a lot of handling (watch what happens each time the eight-man detail picks up the coffin to move it.)
We had closed caskets for both of my parents. Decided not to embalm. My dad had been poked by needles and tubes so much during cancer treatment. Texas law says casket must be sealed within 24 hours and refrigerated until burial. We didn't want people gawking at how much cancer had changed him.
As far as I know, there was no open casket viewing for Princess Diana, either.
Apparently, the British don't do open caskets, according to what I found on Quora.com:
"Not for the public. It isn’t really done in England. When the Queen mother died the public paid thei respects to the closed coffin lying in state. Diana, Princess of Wales lay at rest in the Chapel Royal and Kensington Palace in private. I believe Charles viewed her body at the hospital and presumably her sisters did likewise if they wished. Viewing is a private matter in England and no doubt those closest to her had the opportunity if they wished"
"The Late Diana, Princess of Wales, coffin lay in the Chapel at St James Palace for several days before her funeral. It is not known if any of her family visited. The coffin would have been closed. We do not do open coffins in most of UK."
It was said at the time that her face was fine. I've even read that some feel she might actually have survived if they hadn't taken so long to get her to the hospital. She was put in a special ambulance that had advanced equipment on it, which supposedly required them to drive extra slow. I don't know how much of that I buy, but who's to say? A lot about the accident has been intentionally covered up.
Ah HELLO! The queen of England, right? Her majesty and all that bs. WRINKLED FLAG on casket exactly like traitor MCSTAIN. Seriously? How could that not be major coms? Guards in perfect dress uniform walking in perfect lockstep along side the funeral car without as much as one step out of sync with each other for MILES and a wrinkled flag? Really?
I am trying to think of the last time a Head of State had an open casket funeral or had the government let their corpse be viewed.
Only one I can even think of in my memory is Vladimir Lenin, and Abe Lincoln before him. One was believed to be assassinated, the other was openly assassinated, which might be more of making a point than for national grieving.
There is something damaging to national morale to see their previously living leader as a corpse. Its always a flag draped box.
Also the embalmed open casket funeral is a American tradition.
I was thinking the same thing. There aren't a lot of celebrities that have had open casket funerals and my guess is because you can't trust paparazzi not to sell photos and the internet has made it worse. I think that is the last thing the family wants to deal with....
She died a long time ago. That body is in rough shape now. Nobody wants to see that!
That's true of Maxine Waters too, but we still have to look at her.
I kek'd
Yeah. And why are the people viewing wearing coats and parkas?? Wth
Photo was taken in Scotland. It's chilly up there.
That whole setup looks hokey, not majestic at all. 70 years to plan and prepare and that is the best they can do?
Everything seems hokey now days.
Saint George Floyd had a way better casket. Gold

I could iron that blanket better with a kettlebell and a blow torch.
A shoe-horn and a oil heater.
A turd wrapped in tin-foil and heated in a Solar bush oven would iron this better.
Queen my ass.
with some catnip.

Watch some BBC.
Check yourself.
Wow, a lot of downvotes for misspelling "whose"!
Maybe they revert back to Lizard form after death.
When the lizzard leaves the body,it leave an empty shell.....
Molted scales.
Tiny ass flowers and a wrinkly flag.

Have you seen the other comments on this page? I described the ceremonies as "beautiful and moving," and got downvoted to hell.
Take offense at that, not at a very small joke meant to disarm a few blokes right here.
Crikey.
The entire picture looks off. The coffins not even centered on the base, and the flag looks weird to me.

Diana was in a car wreck so I’m guessing she wasn’t fit for viewing even by US standards.

She was murdered.
Perhaps. It's also possible her death was faked. I guess we'll have to wait until the end of the movie to find out for certain.
And the wrinkles in the flag.

Would be kinda weird to show a body that has been dead for a few years from execution
How would they cover up her neck being twice as long as in all her pictures?
Granny maw maw’s funeral looked better.
And Saint George Floyd’s
Look at that wrinkly blanket.
It is as wrinkled as the bedspread on Hunter's bed would be after a meth and crack fueled 4 day bender with 9 prostitutes.
It looks like some break-dancers laid it out on the Manhattan sidewalk and spun on their fucking heads on it.
All these breaches of protocol.
