My aunt fostered a few kids and adopted one. And she loves that kid with all her heart. If anything, the kid is spoiled as hell, but is happy now and doing well. Not everyone who fosters/adopts is evil or exploitative, but yeah, the system needs to be repaired or rebuilt.
We used to foster and stopped because of the lack of care that social workers had for the kids and families. Our family didn’t matter to SWs so long as the kids they were responsible for were “parked” with a foster placement and off their hands. It became too soul destroying to fight against a system constantly for these kids to get the help and support they needed when SWs DGAF.
We did for 10 years but in the end we had to put our own family first. Still in contact with most of our “kids” and a couple of decent SWs & lawyers became friends
Back in the early 2000's, in New Jersey, I had a conversation with one of my wife's co-workers. He was a lawyer who had worked with the Division of Youth and Family Services for many years. He said that the people in the Dept. were not to be trusted with children's well-being, to quote, "... what better place is there for a pedophile to work ..."
There might be great foster parents and lousy foster parents. I don't see any way of monitoring which is which. And, my guess is that great foster parents are hard to find for ALL the children. If we started up orphanages again, the situation with children would be much better supervised, maybe by an elected citizen committee.
It just depicts life in an orphanage with a drunken caretaker (Carol Burnette). I have 3 nieces adopted from an orphanage in Ukraine. They would hoard onions under their bed and eat them like apples, and work all day for a potato and eat it raw. What we should be doing is everything we can to help families stay together.
I wouldnt be surrprised from my own experiences / info of others. Was rejected a job in this field because I was "too passionate" about child protection. Found out from an ex employee of the joint that the manager of the place doesnt give a sh1t about the kids - if foster families do right she takes them to court and takes the kids back - meanwhile hands them over to shonky families.
I can't think of any FOSTER PARENTS that I've known of WHO WEREN'T exploiting THE SYSTEM. Adoptions are included...
Have fostered. Adopted four. Raising them as patriots. Now you know one.
This is how you MAGA.
God bless

This is the exact reason we stayed and dug in our heels.
