'it is the only way' comes to mind, unfortunate reality of people having to experience horror over time for them to wake up.
If people are this resistant when there are repeated IRL examples and experiences, imagine peoples reaction of this knowledge had simply been top-down forced upon them, half wouldn't believe it and the other half would be manipulated by DS against it to the point of it combined with all other things top-down could have real potential for civil war and basically playing into DS hands.

edit: as I'm writing this I'm watching the Echen episode of stargate(S4E16) which involves sterilization by way of vaccine...........(are people that have mentioned this show and defined it as 'soft disclosure, definitively might be something to that....)
If she felt well enough to go to the gym then it probably wasn't the sinus infection that killed her. More likely myocarditis/pericarditis especially since she had just been in the gym.
I’m gonna say this is the real truth. Sinus infections make you miserable. I know from personal experience having them constantly as a young kid into my teens. I could barely make it out of bed some days with an active infection/congestion.
This could actually happen. I had a little patient once whose sinus infections had been ignored to the point that it eroded through the nasal bones and gave him meningitis. (He lived and was all right.)
I bet her doctors are baffled.

Sometimes the smell and taste of things really make it difficult.
When I had one as a kid, had it for about a month before I gave up and visited a doctor (antibiotics knocked the shit out of it fortunately).
Everything smelled and tasted awful, except Squirt and McDonald's burgers.
Extremely unhealthy time, but it was destroying me mentally and I wasn't eating or drinking anything because even water just tasted awful.
A sinus infection makes you want to stay in your room, noseblind and away from dealing with anything.
They'll "wake up" when the TV tells them to.

And I had a coworker who's brother lost an eye to sinus infection too sad stuff
Same process, no doubt. Those bones are paper thin in spots, it doesn't take much to get into the CSF.
