Took away my kid's smart phone and gave them a flip. He's happier and even brags to his friends that it's a Nokia(generic term now) and therefore indestructible.
Sorry, but I think this is a dumb position to take. One of the reasons I am so successful is because my parents let me use a computer when I was really young.
Should a kid have limited apps and firewalled internet? Absolutely.
Should a kid have limited access, and a time limit to use the cell phone? Again, absolutely.
But to get rid of all of it is going to hinder their production in society. I know a fantastic kid, and he is a beast when it comes to programming languages. I couldn't imagine if his genius would have flourished the same without the exposure to technology, and I'm humble enough to know I don't have all the answers for him.
I'm sure things are different now, my first computer had a DOS prompt, there were 3 games installed (Tetris, Prince of Persia, and Oregon Trail), my parents essentially let me use it, and since they knew as little about computers beyond Word processing, they told me to "figure it out".
That was an attitude that I applied to windows (which I still feel is a GUI over DOS, at least at 3.1).
Now the circumstances are different, it's very easy to use a computer to learn little, so, IMO, kids should be more guided in their use of computers.
Same shit. Computers have been tracking your ass since Windows ME, and they've only got worse since then. You think Windows 10 and 11 aren't corporate tracking devices?
And if you try to pull a Linux card on me, I'ma laugh.
Edit: Why downvote me? I am right. Pull out of your cognitive dissonance and look it up.
Linux is a free OS system. It is more secure, but if computers make you angry, it's not going to be as easy to use as Windows in the long run, as it can require a lot of text console commands when things don't work out of the box.
So if OP played "a Linux card", that would be them replying "Oh, but I'll use Linux instead."
That would be laughable - to know Linux, but to not know your home computer tracks you.
It would be like someone talking about tearing an engine apart to one up you in conversation after they stripped all the bolts.
This is the point. Kids today are pointing and clicking icons. That is not what we did in the 80's and 90's we were typing out pages of code to make a primative picture or whatever. I remember once spending the entire day remapping the bitmaps of the system font so I could use typed letters in a grid of 9 to represent a car that would move about. It was only slightly better than "Night Driver"
I would have no qualms about giving a kid a desktop computer if only the internet wasn't total CANCER. Tablets and phones are like feeding teets, whereas a computer is like a farm.
Anyway, everything is cancer now. Everything is degenerate and damaging. Where is the good stuff. I really think under 21s should not even USE the open internet AT ALL (there should be a prison-garden internet for kids that resembles the mid 1990's less the porn and p2p comms)
I kept my flip phone until about 2016,it finally broke...
I know use my smart phone for texts and a mobile Hotspot for my tablet. The screen is broken and it has green lines on it. And I have a newer one,but but I don't use it cause it doesn't have the actual buttons on the bottom......
I do my research on my iPhone. I don’t really have the proper coordination to work a keyboard well unfortunately. I like to pace as well. It helps me concentrate. Idk if anyone else can relate. I definitely could see many people benefiting from this tho.
I’d like to see what a smart phone will look like after the Illuminati and Mystery Babylon are taken care of
I looked at this phone a few weeks ago and decided it is just too minimalist right now. I think a camera is vital in these times and the texting is necessary to keep track of family issues. Once in a while when out, I might look up a phone number or address. Don't have FB or any of the other social media apps on the phone.
I have been using a phone this way since phones came out, because the device will track you. His phone (light) will also track, since it still uses IMEI and SIM data which can be triangulated by tower access (the tracking we should be mainly concerned about). So, you will need to keep your distance from that device too.
I recommend everyone watch Rob Braxman on UghTuub, Odysee, or Rumble. He breaks down which parts of surveillance are a threat to the average person, how much of a threat, WHY it is or is not as much of a threat, and what can and can't be done about it.
Androids users can use an app called Stay Focused to turn their phone into a dumb phone, but be able to keep a few apps like music, maps, calendars. It'll take some tweaking and trial and error to dial it in to your specific needs, but can help a lot of people if used correctly.
Holler at me if you have any questions. Going into strict mode and blocking settings means there is no going back so do some trial runs for a couple days at a time until you get it dialed in before committing to a long term block.
You can do the same thing with your PC and buy an e-ink monitor, but they are expensive ($800 for 13") and it is a really drastic change (black and white, 2-3 fps).
I gotta bust out my DiPhone (dumb iPhone) again. I used it for a month, I honestly cannot remember if my productivity went up or not (since I only did it for like 2 weeks) but it definitely kept me off of all media outlets including here
I mostly use my smartphone for GAW content, emails, photos, calendar management, and self improvement listening using Spotify (not paying for their shit) and youtube (reading physical books is my go-to ALWAYD but I use this during transit to and from work and other places while I’m driving). Other than that I have no dumbfuckery applications or subscribe to any herd-type apps/platforms I partake in.

Kids should 💯 not have access to the internet/apps with a smart phone. It is literally destroying them spiritually and physically.

Man, I remember the days when you had to "be smart" to use a computer too. Lol.
Did NOT say computer. Said with a "SCHMARDT Phone" / NSA / Corporate tracking device.

Including this comment. Fucking Christ...
So your friend is a robot? Cool
No, I stand by what I said.
It’s like people forgot there was a time when an iPhone didn’t exist
Yes a flip phone that only calls and texts is fine
Kid also has a college savings from the work he's done online, and already has a resume.
I bet you're not half as cool now, and you weren't back then either.
Maybe if you stop treating kids like morons, and give them the proper supervision, they too can flourish into geniuses by our standards.
I get it though, complaining is easier, and more important. This new generation is going to knock you on your ass, Boomer.
Boomer? Isn’t that a libtard word?
And nice username - quite the metamorphosis from your last comment! Lol
I'll accept it. History has already proven your stance to be incorrect and antiquated.
Kids don't need an smartphones.
I never buy the new phone,I just order the previous model or two,for a couple hundred when my old one breaks.
Their are people who don't even know you can do this......
They usually have a jailbreak for them too.
I had my Pantech 'Blackberry wanna be' phone till late last year when ATT turned 3G off. Phuckers.... Was a great phone!
Replaced it with a Kyocera 4G flip phone. BACK to the Future!
Texting sucks. But I have NEVER lived my life on my phone. Don't care much.
They can still track me, but the phone does NOT send out my location or my conversations on a minute by minute basis.
I kept my flip phone until about 2016,it finally broke...

I just went back to a flip phone yesterday. Funny timing to see this video today!
This is a great video!
For me, the ideal would be a dumb phone with the same number as my iPhone. The best of both worlds.
Androids users can use an app called Stay Focused to turn their phone into a dumb phone, but be able to keep a few apps like music, maps, calendars. It'll take some tweaking and trial and error to dial it in to your specific needs, but can help a lot of people if used correctly.
That might be cool. I'll check it out.

Great lesson
I didn't get a smartphone until 2018.
iPhone 6 was my first. The 12 was my second and hopefully my last.
iPhone 5c was my first I currently have an iPhone XR I don't plan on getting another one.
You can do the same thing with your PC and buy an e-ink monitor, but they are expensive ($800 for 13") and it is a really drastic change (black and white, 2-3 fps).
Dumb phone only...texts and calls...no internet. All my internet is at home on a desktop or laptop and always start my day in the WORD first
I miss my old flip phone. That thing was cool. You pick it up and you call someone, and you could look like Gibbs in NCIS while doing it.
I gotta bust out my DiPhone (dumb iPhone) again. I used it for a month, I honestly cannot remember if my productivity went up or not (since I only did it for like 2 weeks) but it definitely kept me off of all media outlets including here

Naw
Then we couldn't be effective digital soldiers. No thanks.
You totally missed the point of sharing this, but thats ok.
