Flip the experiment on it's head... and try it a different way.
If you were told that 100% of the people in a group were Covid mask wearing Antifa liberals from Portland... and an authority figure requested you to give them electric shocks... would you?
All of a sudden, it's an entirely new choice.
I'd say "what do you mean this only goes to 450 volts? What kind of mickey mouse operation are you running here?"
The choice ceases to be one of 'ethics' vs. 'orders from authority'.
It now becomes one of 'ethics' vs. 'what I've been wanting to do all along, but haven't been given the authority to do'.
Whereβs the β11β setting????!
They should make more products with dials that go to 11 :) (Rob Reiner is a colosal jerk, but that movie was pretty funny)
Eleventy!
You are correct, it definitely 'feels' like a different situation, but we know it's not.
Why would we want to become like the people we despise?
Our side is fundamentally different than theirs. We want to live a peaceful life, be good to others, recognize merit and free will, etc.
If we ever choose to be 'like them' in order to 'defeat them', then both sides become evil --- and the world becomes a MUCH darker place.
As difficult as it is, we must try to 'convert' them.
That's why white hats always operate within the law.
no, those people hurt themselves enough without my help.
Hahahaha!
I wouldn't.
You'd have to talk me into it a different way.
You'd have to tell me that the shocks were designed to shock the demons out of them -- it wasn't pointless pain, it was healing.
