The romans added lead salts to wine to make it taste nicer.
that worked out great for them.
We're so much better, we have aspartame.
and tofu. and prozac. and energy drinks..
Tofu is over 2000 years old and super nutritious. Excellent to consume if you're a girl. I'd avoid or eat in very hard moderation if male
NOT good for girls either!
good to know. does that go for the new "incredible" meat substitutes? probably not for actual bugs!
feed the bugs to fish or chicken and eat them instead...
I'm good with that.
tofu is fine as a compliment to meat (adds a different texture to soups, stews, stir-fries, etc.) as an alternative to it, though? eh...
honestly, I'd rather eat chicken of the woods than "beyond chicken"
stares in fluoride
I guess the romans coined the term: "LEAD BOTTOMS" π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£ππππππππππππππππππ
Don't forget thalidomide
Thalidomide would be way better on this meme than Heroin which functions exactly as advertised.
Lead in paint.
Cocaine in foods...looking at you coca-cola.
Laudanum for babies.
But don't put all your trust in memes! The cigarette ad is faked.
(Weird aside - as I was typing this, I felt like I was doing a Captcha - "Click on the fake ad"!)
plus DDT isn't actually as dangerous as it's made out to be. Yeah, you probably shouldn't spray babies with it, but the 'environmental dangers' are grossly exaggerated...
I expect it was an over-use issue, which happens a lot. People think that if a little bit of a chemical is good, then a lot must be better.
I've read peoples' comments on how they ran around behind the spray trucks before DDT got banned. Getting massive doses of almost any chemical on your body has the potential to make you sick but everything was being sold as some new "miracle solution" . Without knowledge, nobody knew that kids shouldn't be exposed to that much of it.
Came back to add my grandmother's perfect explanation of moderation, "Too much of a good thing is still too much."
Could be, but there was also the time where a bunch of researchers ate the stuff for a year I think it was without any problems, so who knows?
DDT is still used in the WWE. My brothers messed me up with it as a kid.
you joke, but a causal link was never found between DDT and the thinning of bird's eggs...
The DDT scenario was one of the first hallmark moments that national policy was established by screwy data in the name of environmentalism. Choosing βSavingβ birds over the betterment of mankind. DDT was on its way to save thousands upon millions of lives in 3rd world countries but we let Bill Gates send them vaccines instead.
Funny thing is IVT has been taken as a preventative in those countries for decades... lol
Came here to say this. My father was an entomologist and always told me that DDT was instrumental in mosquito control in countries that were suffering badly from malaria....
It was completely demonized and nixed from use, much like other things that actually solve problems...
sadly, I learned about it from Michael Critchton. His book, "state of fear," was an early, low dose redpill for me. Guy wrote thesises (thesi?) about subjects and then turned them into great books, and he included sources as well.
Yet I was made to read "Silent Spring" by Rachel Carson in biology class in high school.
dunno the book, but I assume it's some propaganda book about how DDT was going to kill all the birds?
It was required reading in a lot of classrooms back in the late 60s. Carson was against all poisons.
...someone should have told her most medicines are technically poisons... It's the dosage that makes the difference
She also didn't know that dioxin naturally occurs in small amounts in streams passing through forests. It's not necessarily the paper mills causing it.
...besides, without paper mills, we might nto have Methyl sulfonylmethane (MSM), lol.
yeah but npcs never get it - its "history" "we're smarter now" ......apparently
