Fog of war, absolutely. But they've had quite a few sleepers over the years. It would not surprise me.
But I also don't trust anyone and am always skeptical of motives now. So there is that.
There was a time Republican voters found very little fault with the Bushes as well. I firmly believe DeSantis is trying to out-MAGA Trump in order to bleed off support for Trump. Everything he does seems so scripted. Especially when a reporter asks him a question and he unloads on them. Scripted as hell, and people eat it up. I mean let me ask you this. Who in the GOP would MAGA voters back other than Trump? We don't want another RINO, and they know it. So, they create this new guy who is so right wing, young, attacks the left.... They know the only way to have any chance of getting rid of Trump, they needed to first provide an alternative. Someone "more electable". Someone younger. Someone who ran a big state, and made it even more red. The RINOs created a hero, but he's not a hero for us, but for them.

When did DeSantis destroy Disney? If anything Disney is making more money and can push all blame of internal staffing/security off to the county. I know Disney was saying “no please don’t! “ but maybe it was more of an act and either they don’t care or it was a small loss created to give DeSantis credibility.
As far as the lenient Covid state, gotta have a release valve on the nations tensions where people can vacation to before they revolt.
I’m not saying his actions were bad, I enjoy them myself and he currently makes a good Florida gov but media given instructions can easily create the image of whoever they want (villain, hero) and some people are easily swayed to believe that narrative.
I’m becoming more and more sure that DeSantis will run against Trump in 2024 and he will be loved by the media and thus by “moderate” democrats, independents and republicans. This image is only possible with the media on your side.

Of all the talk about DeSantis being DS, THIS is the most compelling reason to doubt the talk that he is a great patriot interested in saving the country. The fact he came out of nowhere, even more out of nowhere than Obama, to rise to this level of national prominence, is a pretty good sign that things aren't what they seem.

I've been suss of DeSantis since he was shitty to Trump about aide to PR after a hurricane but I will continue to give him the benefit of doubt since we are watching some serious 4D chess.
