I've been a happy ebayer for 17 years. Recently they added a new security verification process and I got locked out of my account. No way of getting through to them, so asked someone to send them an email explaining my problem.
After a lot of hassle I managed to speak to someone: No smart phone, no way of getting into my account. Byeeee.
This is the start. More places going cashless in the UK. If you don't comply you are out of the system.
I don't do business with any of these cash-free folks, same way I don't do business with anyone who "followed COVID protocols" or flies the blue and yellow. Why would anyone continue putting money in to the pockets of people who wish to do them harm?
Wife broke her phone last year. When she got a new one, FB wanted driver license to access her account on that phone. Sucks bc we have 15 yrs if family pictures on there.
She only posted dank memes though and spent more time being banned than not.
I back up my phone every week. It's a Samsung so I use "SmartSwitch" app.
But I take most photos with a camera and upload them to my computer every day.
Omg,, everything else i could write is not positive!
Lord Jesus help us !
If you use a Samsung, do not allow Google any analyitics, use fake accounts for play store, nav, etc, and disable all extra services, you aren't giving anything to anyone but yourself. Go a step further and use a prepaid mvno where you don' t need credit check
Vanced youtube still works, adblock still works, open nearly everything incognito other than your selling websites and this board
Waiting in line for something or sitting at a restaurant waiting for food while on this Q board or reading the drops....now you're playing with power!
Thanks. You have the know-how I lack, and while you are playing the system you are still complying. I'll resist as long as I can.
Vanced has started having codec issues. ReVanced works well, and you can have it completely rip out the tiktok clone features.
Welcome anon.
I also have followed the same route for a while.
If i can't get in with a temp sms, then im not putting a real sms# in to get an account.
That's a bridge too far.
Here's what's happening with your cell phone # with big tech and their big data:
And then someone can see everything you have ever done.
TL;DR: YOUR CELL # IS A PRIMARY KEY IN A DATABASE TO ID YOU!
I was given a smart phone and only use it for free calls to family and friends, and in case of an emergency when I go out. There is no way I'd admit to owning one to the any corporation in order to trade with them. Willing to lose it if need be.
go a step further than never admitting to owning one.
Explain how you would love to own one if they are willing to pay for one and the monthly service :D
Then get one and don't use it, and always take the sim card out except for 1h every week to check any msg's they may have given you.
That's pretty much what I do. :D
I thought ebay went cashless long ago?
I stopped the moment Paypal was hacked Like 15 years ago.
Cancelled everything.
17 years. It was timed precisely.
I know! Or rather God must have known, as I had a prompting to get a whole lot of stuff and replace my washing machine just before this happened.
I'm not sure if all these corporations are connected, BUT, I was once an employee of an Organization, like in the early 90s, and have had multiple Phone numbers between then and now....
This past Month, they called me on my girlfriends phone....
Yeah, shit is that deep....
And I don't have a phone, haven't had one for almost twenty years....
Starlink Quantum Satellite phone - ready to be used........Elon Musk product
Nobody buys shit locally. Craigslist is 99% dead with the exception of used cars and yard equipment. Facebook marketplace is dead. Offerup is dead. The only possible way to sell things second hand is eBay and I do have relative success to backup my claim.
That's called 2-factor authentication and it's actually a pretty good thing. Get the smart phone. You'll like it.
NO F'ING WAY! End up being controlled like the Chinese? No thanks.
In the 17 years I had my account there were no security problems, its not about security.
Two factor ID should be optional not sure why they are forcing this. Plus, two factor ID can use email as an alternative and doesn't always require a smartphone.
Unfortunate to hear what the rep told you.
We have two-factor verification for a credit card and it calls our landline with a robovoice that reads out the number. It was optional and I can sort of see the point of having extra security.
I do have concerns that it's going to be made mandatory AND it will be tied to having not only a smart phone but one that's connected to the internet. Our phones are talk-and-text only. I have a bit of resentment about being forced to pay for something that I neither want nor need, just to be able to access my own things - like my bank account.
2008 was when Meg Whitman A monkey can run this train introduced Donohoe as CEO, that was the death of the "little guys marketplace" with his MBA love of big business. The little guy was regulated out of business and Paypal turned into the enforcement arm of ebay. I had a good run 2004-2008 and I stopped selling on ebay. Seller Central was the last link to ebay and I left that too.
This is the first time you've ever encountered 2 factor authentication before? It's been around for years. It is about security. My local online bank has been using it for years
You're downvoted for telling the truth, which is commonplace for "Great Awakening."
Downvotes roll off me like water on a ducks back
You must have a ceramic coating to stay away from a ban.
You don't need a smartphone for 2FA, SMS works fine (for non critical stuff I mean).
2FA based on a cell phone sim card which can be spoofed is not secure, sorry anon.
