There isn't enough public humiliation.
Which means there's no shame.
Which means they feel entitled to do whatever degeneracy feels right at the time.
Because they think that's freedom.
Shame requires a sense of responsibility for one's own state.

This is very timely. Slightly off topic but the same mindset.
Just this afternoon I had a run in with a thief. The passive aggressive variety. Take and justify. Over and over.
"Nobody's gonna care if I take this, etc."
When I confronted him all he could argue was that I was crazy, he was concerned about my mental state, even went as far as saying that I was trying to cover up for something that I had done. No mention of what that could be. What a dumbass.
Not once did he argue the original point. Not once.

I may have agreed with this in the past, but after listening to James Lindsay, I think that it is clear the issue is not logic vs emotion but an underlying worldview that is fundamentally different.
