This ain't my first "winter of death"
Hilarious!! :))
Well, those are starvation foods, poisonous; but will keep you from starving. I'm stocking up on canned sardines.
You dislike nightshades? Or plants in general? Do you do carnivore?
Plants in general. With the exception of lemon juice and apple cider vinegar, I have a plant-free diet.
Feels great doesn't it? I have been carnivore for over a year now and I am my high school weight again and feel amazing. People don't realize how toxic plants are.
Absolutely! I'm two years in, and I feel fabulous! And my athletic performance and recovery is better than when I was in my twenties. Plus, I get compliments on my skin quality and how fit my body is. My brain works better than ever, and I sleep like a baby!
Listen up people. Preaching truth here! As with everything else, we've been lied to about our food as well. Check out this dude on PooTube https://www.youtube.com/@anthonychaffeemd
100%! Anthony Chaffee is legit!
Canned sardines have wicked high sodium content, I'm trying to find a low sodium preserved meat source, no luck yet.
Who packs sardines with sodium?
Looks like Delica and Spaghetti squash? We started growing squash last year. Some of the winter varieties such as Hubbard, Kabocha, Butternut, and Buttercup store easily 3 to 6 months in cool temperatures @50F.
Same goes for some of the sweet potatoes. Okinawa, Molokai, Murasaki and other Japanese white and purple varieties can easily store much longer than the standard sweet potato bought at the store.
For winter squash, Sweet Mama are yummy. I also like Tetsabuko, but harder to find seed.
Do you all have this catalog? https://kitazawaseed.com/
Ooh, ty! I see they do have Sweet Mamas. π I like the idea of trying some Pak Choi next year.
I have this resource, but I forget to look at it.. lol

They have over 8,000 seed and plant companies listed and reviewed.
I know, I was real active on there for years. It's not what it was before Dave sold it and a lot of the reviews and plant info is old, dating from before the sale. I have ordered from this place and they're terrific. Pinetree Garden Seeds sends nice seeds too and they carry quite a few Asian varieties. Actually, lots of seeds from all over the world. Pinetree's prices are very reasonable too.
That's sad to hear about Dave's. Shows how much I've been on there.
Yeah, I like Pinetree. I tried Johnny's and wasn't thrilled. Territorial and Annie's Heirloom were pretty good.
Apparently the Garden Watchdog hasn't been updated since Dave left. It has a lot of listings for places that no longer exist. I've ordered from both of those. Both are sold at a local nursery so I don't order. Another terrific catalog that sends huge packets is Seeds from Italy. Lots of interesting Italian varieties. I love that I can find heirloom seeds and even plants at local shops now. I remember scouring catalogs to find some.
Hadn't heard of Sweet Mama, will check it out.
I just ordered Tetsukabuto seeds for next year from Etsy.
5 seeds - https://www.etsy.com/listing/951719011/tetsukabuto-hybrid-winter-squash-seed-5
10 seeds - https://www.etsy.com/listing/867792158/tetsukabuto-pumpkin-f1pmvineborercmaxima
I understand that Tetsabuko needs a companion winter squash to fertilize, something like Hubbard or Butternut.
I believe Tetsabuko is a Kabocha. Etsy has about a dozen different varieties of Kabocha.
Ah, I hadn't thought of checking etsy, thanks!
I usually start my ordering in January. I can't wait for the seed catalogs to come..lol
Nice yield catsfive! We just harvested the last of our garden recently too. Canned more tomatoes, pears and peaches then I ever expected to! Just finished planting a bed of garlic for next summer too. Never done it before so hopefully it works out!
Wonderful! Good luck with your harvest! We did garlic yesterday, eight rows. Were guaranteed no vampire bites all next year, just in time! Haha
Awesome! I'm sure you're aware but if not fermented honey garlic is legit! Kiddo brought home a cold from school and it got me. After taking the honey garlic, it was knocked out in a day!

NICE!!!!! TIME FOR CHOW CHOW
Salsa salsa salsa! Haha
Very nice haul, Catsfive! Are you canning, freezing, drying?
YES π
I bought me a nice, big dehydrator a couple of years ago. I dried everything I could get my hands on. Used to can quite a bit but dehydrating is so easy and takes up less storage space. Canning reminds me so much of my late mother, though. So many days in her kitchen when I was a kid helping her can tomatoes, green beans and making homemade preserves.
How are you preparing and storing the squash?
For winter squash , my favorite way, beside whole in cool storage, is to bake them cut in half and cleaned on an oiled cookie sheet. Then when they're baked and cooled I portion them out and freeze. I use them in soups, chili and casseroles, etc.
For summer squash, I peel and freeze sliced, ready for soups, etc or for zucchini, shredded in portions to make bread.
I've been playing around with foods to plant from kitchen scraps. So far I planted sweet potato pieces after soaking to bring up some root and looks pretty good so far.
I know someone who re-grew lettuce.
Lots of such on pinterest.
Watching this October unfold I kind of have my concerns too
This may be a stupid question. Is most of that unripe tomatoes? What do you do with unripe tomatoes?
Nice haul, got the last of our Okra yield I believe this week.
