Just got diagnosed with laryngopharangeal reflux or LPR, silent reflux.
Doc wants to put me on PPIs briefly but i dont trust that class of meds.
Any thought or alternative? Looking at alginate containing antacid like Gaviscon

I love Ken Berry - he’s really intelligent !
Yup…more acidity not less. Kombucha is great! Helps to water it down some tho…
This is the best information.
How much acv?
Good suggestions. Also consider alkalinized water
Alkaline is counterproductive for reflux. Alkaline refers to a pH level above 7 (7 is neutral), which is the opposite of acidic. If you drink alkaline water or eat highly alkaline foods, you will lower the acidity of your stomach and cause the LES to stay open and allow more reflux.
Alkaline diets can have good health benefits for many people, but people with severe reflux need to be very careful with alkaline products. You want a stomach pH of 2.5 or lower to prevent reflux, and that can be difficult to maintain if you are eating and drinking a lot of products with a pH that is higher than 7.
Didn't know this. Thx
I've read a little about alkaline diets, and even tried it a few years ago but it was too difficult for me to maintain. I think you still might be able to manage some form of an alkaline diet with reflux, but you probably just have to be much more careful in your food and drink choices. Rather than choosing foods and drinks that are directly more alkaline themselves when they enter your stomach, aim for foods that are less alkaline in their natural form, but tend to cause the body to become more alkaline after they are digested and absorbed. I'm sure you can easily find a lot of information online to help you decide which foods to try. I believe there are a lot of health benefits to keeping your body in a slightly alkaline condition if you can manage it.
What's you diet like? Go see a homeopath to get on a diet. Laryngopharangeal reflux is a pharmacalogical made-up disease. It's official, medicine is now run by a by a committee of 'experts' who concoct, name, label, describe, and categorize disease. We all saw this with the medical field using SADS as the disease killing all those mRNA vax☠xed victims. SIDS was created the same way for covering up toddler adverse reactions to vax☠xines.
Laryngopharangeal reflux is fancy way of saying stomach acid issues. This is most likely a dietary issue. It's the type of foods you are eating and you are taxing one or more of your organs like the gall bladder.
Try doing a 24 hour fast and drink only water. If the issue abates during the fasting, it most likely a dietary issue. After your fast, eat celery and green leafy vegetables, Stay away from grains and sweet fruits, and sugar. At supper add a small amount of meat to your diet (stay away from processed meats) and gradually increase the amount after the 2nd day.
This is a very rough draft on what you should do. A homeopath will put you on a diet to correct these symptoms. Laryngopharangeal reflux is a symptom of 'something' that is wrong. It is not a disease. You should never treat the symptoms of anything, except for bringing a temperature down. Al pharmaceuticals are highly suspect. Avoid them.
Truth social, Sharkman fenben protocol.
Diamataceous earth
You’ve got worms probably.
I've come off a course of iver just recently bc ppl at work were all dropping like flies for a bit of various illnesses.
I am not a medical pede, but as someone who has suffered from severe GERD for my entire life, and has had surgery to treat symptoms, and spent more than 20 years on PPIs before learning the truth and weaning myself off of them, I can tell you that choosing to take them is the worst possible decision you can ever make.
The problem with reflux is that the LES (Lower Esophageal Sphincter), the ring of muscle at the bottom of your esophagus that opens to let food into the stomach, and closes to prevent the stomach contents from flowing back up into the esophagus, is not functioning properly. For decades, nobody understood what made the LES open and close; but now they do. The sphincter opens and closes based on the acidity of the stomach. If your stomach has a pH level of 2.0-2.5 or lower (EXTREMELY acidic), then the sphincter will close. If the pH level in your stomach is higher than that, the sphincter will open. This means that by neutralizing all the acid with constant antacids, or worse, preventing the stomach from producing enough acid in the first place (this is what PPIs are designed to do), you are actually causing the LES to remain open all the time, which allows acid and food to back up into the esophagus. It also prevents you from digesting your food properly because you don't have enough acid in your stomach to do the job properly.
As for the PPIs themselves, the FDA released a major warning a few years ago that says you SHOULD NOT take PPIs for more than 3 consecutive weeks, and no more than 5 weeks out of each calendar year. This is because long term use is addictive, and dangerous to your health. They can cause damage to your vagus nerve (possibly the most important major nerve in your body, it controls the entire digestive system as well as several other important functions), and it can cause many other kinds of PERMANENT damage to your body. I dodged a bullet because I took them for over 20 years and was lucky enough to not have any permanent damage.
Once I found out about all the dangers, I quickly weaned myself off of them and have refused to ever again take them again. Since that time, my reflux problems have improved quite a bit. Weaning yourself off of them can be very difficult for some people since you can experience severe rebound effects when you do. Don't start taking them in the first place. Also, keep in mind that most of the OTC acid blockers are PPIs, just at lower non-prescription doses. Stay the hell away from them at all costs. They are nothing more than massive money streams for doctors and for big pharma, just like statin drugs are (which are just as dangerous long term and just as worthless and pointless).
I had surgery for a hiatal hernia, worst decision I made in my life. PPIs were the second worst.
I recommend getting off the PPIs ASAP. Don't stop cold turkey though, research how to wean yourself off them so you don't get rebound effects.
Had a hiatal hernia repaired and reflux is completely gone, going on 2 years now.
Mine was effective for 5-6 years and then began to lose its effectiveness. By then it was no longer reversible. That was well over 20 years ago though, hopefully they have better techniques these days.
Thanks for that history. Will help a friend of mine.
Also I quit smoking in February and I'm trying to manage stress but as a single father with custody it's hard.
Congratulations on quitting smoking! You will be very glad that you did as the years go on.
My biological father was a 2-3 pack a day chain smoker, and I developed COPD when I was in elementary school from the constant exposure to second hand smoke. I've been living with that for nearly 50 years now. I'm glad you stopped smoking not only for your personal health, but for your children's health as well. Think about them every time the cravings get tough to resist and that will help you make it through.
I smoked for about 14 years, half a pack a day or less. Haven't had any issues since quitting re: cravings. My son asked me to quit one day so I did. I never smoked inside or even around the kids and never in the car either. I was always Very conscientious about it. Sorry you have aftereffects from your dad's habit.
You're a good dad to quit for your son. Stay strong and you'll both be glad you did.
Yeah, when I was a kid, there was no such thing as no smoking in buildings/cars/houses/restaurants. A lot more people smoked, and they did it anywhere they wanted, all the time. Things are a lot better these days as far as people not being able to smoke in public places. The smoking is ultimately what killed my father.
It's probably why I have the reflux idk. Maybe that will improve as I get further out. I'm only about 8 or 9 months in so far
Georges Aloe Vera juice (tastes like water) will help almost immediately. DGL Licorice (not candy) is amazing. Also change ur diet like everyone is saying. Probiotics, sauerkraut, real yogurt, apple cider vinegar, kombucha, go keto, very few carbs, Dr. Gundry’s “Total Restore” is something I take every day. Also Zinc heals your digestive track. It’s well known (funny, no doc ever mentioned that).
I had a similar problem brought on by stress (many years ago). Stomach /intestinal issues too. Suffered for quite a while before I did doctors, three months of tests, big pharma meds…nothing helped. In desperation, called the health food store guy and took his advice.
I was almost completely cured in 24 hours. It was amazing. Realized the medical profession was not my friend. Then found a naturopath doc and never looked back.
Hopefully our professionals will weigh in… u/mac1221
Good luck.
I do take zinc daily
I took some prebiotic today and will see what happens. The alginate antacid has worked so far, it's just the magnesium stuff and no PPIS. I'm only a week into this but I won't do the PPIs
My bed is already elevated 4" and I am going to try diet and lifestyle (eating too close to bed) stuff first. Also I've largely eradicated soda altho sometimes I will drink part of a soda
Not sure about laryngofarfalle reflux but I've seen multiple posts here about Ivermectin helping/curing GERD. For me, changing diet helped (keto). I'd try everything I could before resorting to pharmakeia.
Try Papaya enzyme chewable, worked great for me, I'll NEVER take "TUM's or Rolaids" ever again...
I have to agree. I had a gastric erosion, very painful. None of the otc’s worked and Prilosec made my bones ache. I tried the papaya enzymes and got relief. Now I just take them as needed and got rid of all the other stuff.
Try Bromolain. Take prior to meals. Works great
I believe we have a fren here who said after taking ivermectin for a bit, they were basically cured of their GERD.
Would you like to know how I cured my husband of this? We are anti western medicine btw, so no drugs.
Yes
It's been about a decade and he had these issues since childhood. Poor thing was on prescription meds at 10 years old. I had gone to school for holistic medicine and learned that when the flap doesn't close all the way, the stomach acid gets through and causes these issues. And by far in most cases the cause of the flap not closing is a buildup of bacteria on the flap which blocks a solid close, which can be eliminated through cleaning up the diet, taking acv, and not eating within a few hours of bedtime, and not laying down after eating. Now as far as cleaning up the diet, this tends to be customized for each person but a good place to start is whole30 because it automatically eliminates the worst offenders. Not only did this all cure him from this, but he also had frightening allergies (his throat would start to close on him after mowing grass), and all that disappeared too. Also lost a ton of weight and has abs for the first time in his life. He's in the best health of his entire life in his mid 40's.
What is whole30? Thanks for the info already started some of the tips
It's an elimination diet but it basically cleans your diet up really good. It's a very healthy whole food based diet.
I took them for two months. They were not bad.
They are absolutely terrible, counterproductive, and even dangerous.
LOL
