Have you ever been told you’re “straight out of Central Casting?” If not, you’ve likely heard it somewhere, and if you’re registered, you may have even taken a photo with one of our straight out of Central Casting cards. What you may not know is how this popular phrase has evolved since we were founded in 1925.
What does straight out of Central Casting mean?
As with most idioms, straight out of Central Casting has a literal and figurative meaning. Many successful actors and actresses are straight out of Central Casting because they registered with us on their way to stardom, like Tiffany Haddish, Will Ferrell, and Kristen Wiig and legends like John Wayne, Jean Harlow, and Gary Cooper.
Over the years, the phrase has become a popular saying to describe someone who has the traits that fit established stereotypes or archetypes.
When the podcast 99% Invisible visited Central Casting for their episode “Atmospherians,” producer Roman Mars defined straight out of Central Casting as, “something so visually perfect, that it’s like it’s been designed.”
So it’s a movie? Gotta have talent, who are you going to call to find “the talent”…call central casting? How do you fill the cast in a movie,? Who are you gonna call? Centralcasting….apparently?
It's just a phrase that us "oldtimers" grew up with. I'm 5 years younger than Trump and when I was growing up the "central casting" phrase was everywhere. It was just another way to call someone very handsome or very pretty. I don't think there's a "secret meaning" to it.
I'm kinda with you. I'm hopeful that we are watching all actors, but the actions and results don't really seem to reflect that. It's clear to me that at least SOME of these entities have been replaced by a double or something else that is making the public appearances. But, you are correct. It IS a phrase and a way to describe someone attractive or also someone who is perfect for the role they are playing.
At CPAC in Orlando (couple years ago when Kash was there in flannel?), he pointed to someone in audience and associated that person with Central Casting.
I don't know of any other way it could play out without a civil war. The country would not stand for a military takeover. It had to be this way regardless of how bad the taste is in the mouths of us that have been awake for so long!
I have many qualms with the way that this has played out. If we were mislead for whatever reason, and they weren't in control or didn't "have it all" then so be it. War is war. But if it comes out (it won't) that the good side were running this whole thing since 2016 they will have ALOT of explaining to do.
Q has also said "moves and countermoves". I don't think the white hats control every move the other side makes. But I do think they have guard rails in place to keep the train from going too far off track. Maybe not a great metaphor, since that wasn't the case in Palestine, Ohio. But it's the best I can do with my 1st cup of coffee.
