Explain this too me like I took multiple clot shots. Should I buy old silver coins? Quarters Half's and Dollars? How much over melt should I pay?
If you're buying for the silver value, not very much. If you're a coin collector looking for specific dates, it's up to you.
Everyone's approach differs. You do you. My personal practice has been buying 10 oz silver bars. Kind of a sweet spot for silver weight, lower premiums that I could afford on my budget. I buy them from an assortment of reputable dealers because I don't trust counterfeiters. Constitutional junk silver is nice because the low value per coin is an impediment to counterfeiting. I like 1960s quarters and 1964 Kennedy's, not for the collector value but because there is so little wear you get max silver per coin.
Just buy generic silver bars and rounds. Silver Eagles have a high premium that you don’t need to pay when stacking.
Some Constitutional silver is good to have on hand, as well.

so explain to me what the fringe, or the lack of it, on the flag means, like I'm five years old. I only am peripherally aware that the fringe means something naval? Trump had them on the flags when he left office, now he doesn't? Silver Eagles is interesting - reminds me of Roman standards, but also the mint. Being a collector of Silver Eagles when it's not Silver Maples or Silver Ferns, LOL.

DC is as much a part of the USA as any State is. In a way, it is more.
People don't seem to understand what the USA is. The USA is a governmental corporation. It's founding documents (Constitution) are (legally speaking) the exact same as any other Articles of Incorporation. They define, within the system of law adopted, and within the Jurisdiction claimed, the actions allowed by the people who make the actual decisions in the name of the corporation.
The Constitution (in 1787) created a legal entity (legal fiction), which can sue and be sued in lieu of the people who run the US Govt. corporation. This legal entity (as opposed to an actual entity) acts as a shield to hide behind in the legal system. That is the only purpose of a corporation, whether that corp is a governmental corporation, municipal corp, for profit corp, non-profit corp, Trust, or Foundation (etc.). It is only a legal idea, having nothing to do with Reality.
As a shared idea, it can change reality, but only through the actions of the people who believe the idea to be true. The corporate entity itself can't do anything (it has no causal input into Reality). The US Govt. does not actually exist. It is made up of people who do actions that cause changes in reality, but it, itself, does not exist. And it never has.
DC is a City-State owned by the US Govt. corporation. The land it now occupies was claimed by US Govt. corp, and set up to be neutral ground within the framework of the founding 13 states, all themselves separate (foreign) legal entities. This setup was done by way of the original constitution in 1787 having nothing to do with the Act of 1871. The fuckery in 1871 may have created the City-State part of it (another legal fiction), but the area was already owned by the US Govt corporation and was "foreign" to all of the states (a separate Jurisdiction), as it is today.
Like DC, all of the States are "foreign" (separate Jurisdictions) to each other. Each is (legally speaking) a Sovereign entity unto itself. Technically speaking, the States are themselves different countries, and the US Govt only oversees the Treaty (Constitution) between those Sovereign Entities.
This is identical (legally speaking) to the European Union, though that one is more apparent on the surface because it was done more recently, and some of the concessions in their treaty make it more obvious.

Good explanation. SPECULATIVE: Possible tweaks to actual ownership of US Corp per initial establishment 1791 (GB pre-Ireland addition after debt purchase from France ~1783?) and bankruptcy re-organizations in 1861 (new UK?), 1931 (new UK or Germany?), and 2001 (China?).
International banking laws permit 3x 70 year terms to pay off debt. There is an effective bankruptcy re-org after each 70 year term if debt is not paid off. After 210 years, there is a 20 year period for final resolution or jubilee (debt cancellation). It is unknown what happened on September 11, 2021 with the debt. Possible movement of debt from one ledger to another to be paid off by seized assets?
