This doesn't negate the ability of bad actors using shell companies in foreign locations to buy ownership of companies that adds up to 20%, or trying to claim someone is associated with foreign adversaries. If someone on a board of a company is tied to foreign adversaries without the board knowing, that could open up an investigation into that company. All those definitions and provisions do is add extra steps, it doesn't stop anything people are worried about.
They could literally say any investment from the UAE or Saudi Arabia are connected to Iran, a foreign adversary, right after this bill passes, and now a large slew of applications would be implicated.
Either way, if something ends up being sold off to a majority US based ownership, I doubt that would make anything any better on these apps. All this does is just allows the government to decide who in the US is allowed to buy it. Which to me screams "who in our uniparty can we sell this to that will control this how we want it controlled."
Ill clear it up since this guy is on about the definitions. Democrats have proven to not care and change those. And they play loose ajd fast with what people call "evidence".
It is not outside the realm of reality to see them claim that a person who has 20% stock in a company IS in bed with those countries and try to take the app down. Irs also in the Democrat wheelhouse to simply add more countries to the foreign adversary list or create a separate list and repoint this to the new list whenever they want.
In short. Theycan claim without proof, that say....Trump is influenced by china. Proove nothing. Have judges back them. And take Truth social down. Or say that Musk is too friendly with China and take X down.
The real issue is how its defined and how the benchmarks are defined in completely separate docs and it does not define in any way what constitutes proof and who has to prove it.
Who cares? The government does not need to decide what I can and cannot see on my behalf. The fact that they carved out a special slot for the king of tendies is ridiculous.
These people are pushing this garbage because they're on the take and the realize the populist MAGA movement really doesn't want this, so they have to come out and try to sell it.
If we're banning TikTok because it's owned by the CCP...what are we gonna do with Temu? And, alllllllll those supposed conservatives who are now concerned with the CCP owning our information via TikTok didn't seem to care that the CCP owned the incoming Resident back in January of 2021, so why the EFF do they care about TikTok now? I don't trust this.
This guy is dumb. All the democrats have to do is say Trump ‘colluded with muh Russia’ and they can ban him from X and shut down Truth social or any other platform they don’t like
My wife and I were talking about how this is probably a way they hope to ban whatever they want; TV channels, radio stations, internet sites, etc., etc. I can understand banning it from military sites and personnel, but a total ban reeks of leftist censorship.
This bill seems crazy - what are they going to do? Ban websites from being accessed in the US?
People focused on X seem like a limited hangout tactic. "Oh this doesn't ban X? Ok I'm fine with it." kind of attitude.
Seems like Yandex, RT, Epochtimes etc would be banned on command if Biden labelled them a security threat.
And why not *.win?
And VKontakte.

On Brannon’s WarRoom today, Anna Paulina Luna said she met with X to ensure it doesn’t apply to them.

Ignore them. They're fake people.
But somebody has to protect you from being radicalized and who better than the Atlantic Council?

I was suspicious of Temu the second I saw their ads on fucking everything on the YouTube app (this was before I learned about NewPipe and the like).
Spending that much on advertising reminded me of Bloomberg's presidential campaign and its omnipresent ads.
They had more ads during Superbowl than Any other company.

I don't see how they can legally ban any app including Tik Tok.
Nope. I don't trust the govt with anything, let alone more censorship power.
