Yeah, I don't like that she described how she dragged her two family animals (dog and goat) into the gravel pit and shot them dead. She spoke about it as if it was admirable and a show of strength.

Without delving into the gender and original sex of this person: Some dogs do need to be put down, especially on a larger property where they can turn feral - and a bullet is up there in humane killing. Heck, I keep an loaded airpistol in reach, in case of vermin that my fat lazy cat sits and watches. Furthermore if one owns a gun, why take the dog to a vet for a lethal needle-shot? The poor thing will be freaking out in the car.
It is bizarre to talk about putting one's pets down in a book IMO. However, I think if it isn't comms, then it is a weird attempt to either make certain Republicans look like THE gun-weilding party or perhaps, it is to affirm the idea that women can also display a decisive character trait - gun-slinging and proud of it. Stronk Waamenz type thing.
But that is weird in itself. Shooting is one of the few sports that relies on stillness and poise, and really do not need gendered competition rules.
