I believe politicians that grow a backbone, and take sure-footed more hardline stances against the things that do not serve their countries sovereign interest, will see much increased support as opposed to those that take the middle ground where they try to appease both sides, not offend anyone.

I’d take it one step further, if you accept tax dollars as a salary etc. you suspend your voting rights. no more voting in self interest. the rest of us can decide if you deserve more $$$$.
