He just spent last week banning people who didn’t agree with him and importing more of his indian pets.

But he didn't. He did just enough to make it appear "free speech", but he didn't follow through on many of his initial promises.

• There is still shadow banning and other shady instances of censorship today
• Accounts were getting centered left and right all throughout this entire H-1B debate and Elon seemed to proudly admit to it:

I'm not taking a hard position on Elon as of this time. Do I think he could be a full on White Hat? Maybe, but I have my doubts. Do I think he could be a useful chess piece for the White Hats? Yes, absolutely. Do I think he could be a Trojan Horse to the movement? Yes, it is definitely possible.

In the end the tree will be known by its fruits, and there is still time for things to play out. However, in the meantime we should trust nobody 100%. We should be loud, we should be vocal, and we should hold our leaders accountable. I do not think any of this is cause to be filled with doom either. I think a lot of anger on these boards, at least from my pov is people trying to shut down critical thought and anything that goes against the preferred narratives.

Yes, time will tell. Probably. The only thing more or less certain right now is that it is probably a mistake to jump to any conclusions based on something like a few comments from anybody. Could be misunderstandings because the person didn't phrase what he meant well, could be real opinion but then nobody's perfect and even the (more or less) good guys can have problematic ideas of some things, could be meant as some sort of spyop... and it is not all just black and white, there is probably a lot of gray, and with that, it will take even more time to see whether the gray is light enough to pass, or too dark. Too many potential alternatives. Just watch and observe, at least a bit longer.

And when it comes to that gray: there probably isn't enough white for a clear win, you'll have to accept at least the lighter grays in order to have big enough a majority for that. Perfect is the enemy of good. If you demand only perfect you might lose everything, it's too early for that. It took generations for the current rot to settle in, and unfortunately cleaning it all, or even most of it, will also take generations. Right now, and for some time into the future, even a lot of good people do have ideas and convictions that aren't good. Because they were raised with those ideas. And not all of them will be able to give up on them, some will be holding them for the rest of their lives. But they can still be good people who you would want on your side.

And what we have been told is that there are actors in this game. What looks good might not be, but equally, what doesn't look good might be. And everything in between those.
