The sun does this all. the. time. IF the sun were to put out an actual really dangerous CME towards Earth, you wouldn't get a notify about it - we have less than 8 minutes.
Whoa whoa whoa, hang on. Yes, while solar flares travel at the speed of light (and thus the radiation reaches us in about 8 minutes), your comment needs a bit of clarification. CMEs are massive bursts of solar material traveling at a much slower pace—usually taking 1-3 days to reach Earth depending on their speed.
Thanks to modern solar observatories like NASA's SDO and SOHO, as well as the NOAA’s DSCOVR satellite, we can monitor solar activity in real time. These instruments allow scientists to detect and analyze solar eruptions as they form, calculate their trajectory, and issue alerts well before the material impacts Earth.
THAT Said, you are right about saying that a CME could totally catch Earth by surprise. Scientists are clearly watching the sun intently and diligently, but once they sound the alarm, then what? It's clear we're not prepared for action down here and we don't have any really great technological solutions to mitigate something coming our way
🤦🏼♀️
If we pay more taxes, will that fix this?
As someone who regularly checks the SDO site this "coronal hole" doesn't look that unusual or special imo
Yeah this is nothing I haven't seen many times over the past twenty or so years.
We have sun watchers GAW?? Hello, fellow astro nerd!
Climate change on the sun! WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, QUICK! 😱
What do you think Newsome was doing with all that diverted water? Saving the friggin' planet, no less! What a bold leader.
Paying more tax should fix it, right? Riiight?
It’s my fault, I had a steak for dinner last night. I feel so guilty.
Didn’t you help save the planet by stopping that cow from farting?
I suppose that’s true. The same can be said for the bacon I’m about to eat for breakfast too.
I feel better already, thanks fren.
You just had to eat that filet mignon with the bacon wrapped 'round
Looks like the pics of a colonoscopy. Unusually fast winds ... Solar flatulence???
Coronascopy?
Prepping the sheeple for the ten days darkness?
That Sun looks like it's decided its time to settle down and get married.
Kek.
Sky event? 1.13?
Whoa. Interesting thought.

Should we have shot that solar probe into Uranus instead of the sun? Just asking for a friend.
Sphincter cam goes live.
Stop it! You are makin' Butt Edge Edge horny and he is still breastfeeding.
It's chest feeding, bigot!
2025 is off to quite the start.

Still checking for clickbait
Think you need to find the comms in this because that is what it almost certainly is.
My V8 did that! That's why I have to buy an electric car! Dang
Are you serious? I COULD HAVE HAD A V8??
"BE AFRAIIIIDDDD!!!!!" - NASA
