Elon: Not even one government building was found to be even half occupied! That is crazy. Some government buildings, including in DC, have been taken over by squatters, while taxpayers continue to pay for the upkeep! -Trump signed an Executive Order directing all federal employees to return to work (twitter.com) 🚔 Crime & Democrats 💸

There are still quite a squatters occupying our house and senate. Trump will need to purge the swamp completely to restore sanity and integrity to our government offices.

Watch as 50% of Federal workers QUIT rather than having to report to work 40 hours per week (which they've been being paid for "working" 40-hrs per week for years).

It is possible to work remote and actually work.

Or be on site and not work.

That's on the employee to be a good employee.

Yeah return to office is retarded. They should be selling the buildings if they're half occupied.

Right? I could give a fuck where an employee works so long as they are productive. I'm really fucking hating this work from home = lazy.

FFS PEOPLE, ON SITE DOES NOT EQUAL PRODUCTIVITY

Dude, it's clear you work remote, we get it. I did as well for the past 30 years. This can and will be used to "Reset" employees. IBM did this all the f-ing time to purge their workforce. Employees who insist on stay remote, will self select out of the government workforce, saving the cost of the RIF process and severance. It's a calculated move - or a benefit of this effort. As we all know, the government is bloated and you can rest assured that a huge portion of the government workforce is basically a "Ghost" employee role. I have had friends who had long term gov roles and they didnt do shit, nadda zilch. One even had another full time career at the same time. It's impossible to RIF a gov employee under the current contracts. Trump's sched F will fix that issue.

After all of the resources are pulled back into the office, new work culture can be instilled and performance KPI's enacted. I get that this can be done remotely as well, but synergies, cross training and overall employee performance is easier to observe in person for large scale observation. After right sizing and I hope, rank stacking is implemented, remote work can be enabled for the right roles.

Obviously right sizing real estate work locations will be another benefit. I get the savings of remote work forces, I would never work in an office, I didnt for 30 years.

On site does equal we are actually paying one individual for each position and not some theirf who collects 50 paychecks. Also, don't project your own virtue onto those lazy pricks who take money and produce zero work. I'll bet the majority of them are do nothing.

I mostly agree (I work remotely but not for the govt). However your last sentence left off the important part about not just being on the employee, but their manager as well. If the manager isn't monitoring at least the employee's work production then it is on them as well.

As long as the employee is doing their job and the manager receives good product from the employee and is happy with it, there should be no issues. Most good home workers actually work more than they do in-office.

Some however can't work from home because they have zero discipline, and/or their manager doesn't follow up.

More often than not there are WAY fewer distractions at home. My office at home is roughly 20x20 with a full bathroom and a kitchen with a fridge and microwave. I stay in there working and never have to go into the rest of the house unless I take a break to take my dogs outside. I make my wife text me if she needs something - not come in and disturb me. I actually looked for that setup when I bought my house after we moved back to Texas in 2020.

It did take a while to train her years ago when I started because my office back then (different house) was a formal livingroom that didn't have a door. She would come in all the time to see if I wanted groceries, or lunch, or ask me stupid questions that could be asked after work so I put french doors in, and installed a lock on the doors (with curtains on the inside) until she could respect my work. My kids (young back then) learned quickly.

Not if you are meant to serve people when they walk in. How can someone walk to your office and talk to you if you aren't in the office.

I've heard from those that work in the Federal govt that as many as 20% don't even live in the DC area anymore.

They will need to quit or find someplace to live very quickly.

The problem is the buildings are in contracted leases to the government, for years, and the government is stuck. Which is another reason employees need to either occupy them or we need to get out of those contracts. The waste is everywhere.

Yeah, agree 100%. This is one area where Papi T and Elon and I disagree. Yes, I was "forced" to WFH for the past 4-5 years as a fed gov't employees. However, I work as long, IF NOT LONGER, than when I had to report to my office location. And I've got the past four years worth of "exceeds expectations" performance reviews to back up that claim.

This particular EO should be reconsidered...as there a lot of benefits to getting rid of wasteful gov't building leases, and continuing successful WFH/telework situations for some gov't employees. Believe me, I know there are a number of lazy/distrustful fed gov't employees out there who have ruined this for ALL of us.

Doesn't have to do with lazy. You used to be able to walk into a government building and get service. Now you have to make an appointment because the offices are empty.

It's like if police could work from home. It's dumb

There are jobs that work from home doesn't make sense. It's just not a good point.

Time cards have a charge code for Telework vs Regular Time cards are filled by the employee, and then approved by the Supervisor / Manager / Director

Time card fraud is one offense that can get you fired on-the-spot. Any one can whistleblow on this, and it's easily verifiable. It's something I would heartily discourage..

I’m remote in the Oklahoma boon docks. The nature of my job requires zero personal interaction. My boss is several states away as is the remainder of our 8 person team. Our job supports activities across several states. I could walk past my boss on the street and not know her. But, she can damn well tell when someone is lacking in production. I get IT support out of okc but office space would need to be leased for me to do,in person work and I still wouldn’t interact physically with my leadership or team members. Tracking is simple. If I’m green I’m active at my work station, yellow I’m away, red meeting. Yep you can manually change those but I also have my govt landline piped into my computer. I can be called on it anytime by anyone with my number. This isn’t as clear and simple as musk makes it out to be. Yep, there’s dipshits that like to post about being in a bubble bath while working. They gotta go. When that happened we had an all hands and our leadership was crystal clear. Anyone in our region pulling that shit was gone. Here’s the real problem. The SES needs to be culled. There are some good ones. For the most part the basic government worker is doing the work. The problem is that it’s damn near impossible to get rid of the slackers. It’s so bad most managers just stopped trying. THAT my frens is what needs to change. It’s not like the private sector where you just get canned. It’s damn near impossible to fire a govt employee once they clear the 1 year probation period. The union has that shit tied up so tight trying to clear all the hurdles to can someone becomes a full time job. Musk has this wrong unless he’s planning on creating a bunch of openings for some H1Bs. Just sayin’.

that's funny, and makes so much sense! we couldn't believe how big the buildings were, and we rarely saw maintenance workers of any sort. looked like a concrete cemetery...real creepy coming from a place where people actually 'work'

And we thought it was odd that none of the service people were white?? we had foreign cab drivers teaching us about the city. that wouldn't happen where I live, we have All kinds of people working.

talk about racism, the elite are horrible! glad we don't have any;)

I was going to post a thread on this so I am glad you already did GDZeus. Here is one of the key aspects of this move. IBM, we joked, patented this very move. One of the key aspect of this is financial. Employees will self select themselves out of a job, there fore saving the tax payer of severance. This is a win win for DOGE. IBM use to rug pull with this move all the time, to get employees to quit. It's amazing the sheer amount of employees that work 100% virtual. I get it, most of my career has been either client site or virtual, but working on site for at least a sizeable percentage will do a solid for teaming, cross training and performance. Do I believe that employees can be 100% full time remote WFH, absolutely, for some roles.

Add to this the fantastic move to implement Schedule F, making government employees fire able, I see great cost savings and large RIF's (Employee selected and Trump Leadership enabled) across the bloated carcass. https://federalnewsnetwork.com/workforce/2024/11/beyond-schedule-f-trump-has-arsenal-of-ways-to-target-federal-employees/

So. Much. Winning.

Pretty sure Elon didn't look at the Pentagon. No way it is "not even half occupied" with how many military workers are stationed there. Maybe a fair amount of civilian workers may be working from home but there is no way that most military are working from home. Maybe a few do, but most of them have to interact with equipment or classified stuff in person and can't be done from home.

Yeah - I worked there 5 years and hated every day. It was fun at night though when we would come out and "borrow" some of the electric carts to ride around the halls. I worked days but sometimes had to do long nights if something important was happening.

Fun fact - at least in the late 90s almost every single old civilian (some old ladies must've been in their late 70s) wore tennis shoes because of all the walking that was needed to get ANYWHERE in the puzzle palace.
