Agreed. We've had SAMs installed for decades in many places. Additionally, we've had mobile SAMs able to deploy for even longer. No accelerate the tech to today's standards... we don't need an iron dome, most likely have a very fluid array of capabilities already in place.
The problem with the iron dome is those missiles cost ~50k a piece while the rockets they protect are a lot cheaper, so in a war of attrition a cheaper alternative would be desirable.
I feel like this is a lead up to a reveal that there’s a reason why most of the world has been shifting massive amounts of money in modernization, overhauls and Military Buildups. Or making plans too. And it’s not for the reasons we’re told it is. IE the Russians/Chinese.
Parts of the Ukraine Aid Bills have gone towards improving Domestic Production Capacity for Military hardware. Factory expansions, overhauls and automation of production lines etc. Work that as best as I’ve been able to tell. Actually occurred. So it wasn’t entirely another way to siphon off money.
And the improved capacity isn’t going to vanish anytime soon.

I did their budget one year and helped one of the divisions for a while. I was a bit pissed about how much money was wasted on studying and modeling droplet sizes for a biological warhead.

I tend to lean toward a "Kevlar Dome" of capable vets protecting soft targets.
