The sweeping view of Pinocchio's village in which the camera almost seems to be floating through space was created with the multi-plane camera.
They would have copied Zapruder's film several times over, masking different portions of the image in each copy. Thus one would show only the limo and its occupants. Another would show people in the background. Another would contain only foreground objects, et cetera. Each of these separate films could then be re-assembled to create a new version of the event.
The first "plane" of the picture would be used to add cover-up images, like the street sign from which the limo appears to emerge after JFK was hit in the throat. There is also a very obvious (in high definition) black rectangle that masks the enormous bloody wound at the back of Kennedy's head.
They could conceal the slowing of the limo by changing the background behind it to one that is moving more rapidly. We know the people in the background are not in their proper place timewise because many of them appear larger than the people in the foreground, which is an impossible effect to achieve with any normal camera lens.
Also, Mary Jean Moorman and her friend appear in the wrong time and place in the background of the film that we are allowed see. The film shows them on the grass, where they were seconds before. We know she is supposed to be standing on the pavement because her famous photo can absolutely pinpoint where she had to have been when she took it (The very pergola that Zapruder was standing on is in her photo and it helps to place her exactly where she said she was.)
They had only one weekend to whip up a fake version of the Zapruder film. It was a rush job and a crude forgery. High definition video gives away much of the fakery. But the multi-plane camera is what makes it look a single piece of 8mm film.

Except the original still exists. You are talking about a process that manipulates prints, not the original. Experts can determine if they are looking at the camera original or a print. We still have the original film that went through the camera. It's in the National archives.

Kodak didnt make copies so they went the Jamieson Film Company, to make 3 copies.
Disney made animated films. So if you wanted a separate background, you just drew a new background.
