Great idea. Most of them would limit their own terms.
But, we would still want term limits. Make it 2 terms - 2nd term at half pay of the first. Third term with no pay if they switch chambers (like house to senate).
They definitely need to get the same health insurance and retirement programs that the rest of us do. Maybe then we could get something to work. They should not be special, let them buy their own food and booze, and pay for their own housing.
One thing I don't want to see is that only the wealthy can afford to serve as a senator or representative. Anyone who meets the criteria should be able to do it and not be poorer, or much wealthier, after their time of service.
That is SWEET! Get all the greedy fucks out!! Working for government means you're our servant and should behave like priests or man of cloth, with humility, integrity, honesty, and righteousness. Your salary should be a modest one that provide housing and food for your family and live simple humble lives serving the nation as servants.
Even better - the government provides private barracks in DC. Nothing special, something like a 2 or 3 bedroom condo. Then they can maintain their residence in their home state and have a simple place in close enough to walk to the capital. If they don't like it, they can live somewhere else on their own dime.
If they have to walk or bike a mile or two to the capital, I bet they'd find a way to take care of the homeless population.
Absolutely.. back to basic again. If they live as normal people, interact with people on the streets, they would understand their world better instead of being in a bubble surrounded by snobs and fake nobility socialites.
As a contrast... those who do well should be honored some how. Perhaps a peoples vote on their retirement package upon leaving office. But this insider trading does need to end.
automatic annual tax audits on all politicians, their immediate families (two-steps out), any business/LLC/trust/NGO owed (in whole or in part), or worked at by any of the above; by CPA's that have never worked in gov't, with anyone in gov't, AND/OR taken money on a gov't job.
automatic annual tax audits going back 20 consecutive years before public office, while in public office, and 20 consecutive years after public office. This includes all the people/entities specified in 1, above.
automatic annual tax audits made PUBLIC within 30 days of completion.
All he has to do is issue an executive order to arrest every Congress member that has violeted the STOCK ACT. The SEC had all the evidence needed to arrest many of them for blatant insider trading crimes after the closed door Congressional Covid briefing (non public information). Those in Congres staht sold immediately are guilty - some even got caught calling friends and family telling them to sell too - which is additional crime.
SEC is an Executive agency. They have to do what the President orders... or be dissolved for failing to be a functional agency, which is right along what the Executive is doing already.
No trading for THEM, THEIR IMMEDIATE FAMILIES AND THEIR SEMI-IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS while in congress.
Perfect. Weld it.
Auditing them and their family members would also work :)
Dogs too.
Nailed It!!!
And term limits.

Halt their salaries and pay them a per diem!
Agreed
fly their own airplanes
They can ride cattle class like the rest of us. Maybe allow 4 trips a year back to their home states - any more on their own dime.
How about just four trips to DC because majority of time they need to be living and working among the people they represent
Good point.
Those from states close to DC will ..... you get the idea.
Our congressmen should be able to get back to their voters. Not saying I have a solution, just saying we should be logical. And fair.

Think they emptied some federal buildings that can be remodeled

And a reduction in salary just to rub it in
Furlough those phuckers just like many of us had to do with the c19 horseshit...
... and:
SWEET...thats awesome
Won't stop their families from doing it.
That’s greaaaaatttt!
Legally and constitutionally he wouldn’t be able to. Separate branches of government.

Now ban naked short selling. And FTDs. And put a cap on daily CAT errors that's nowhere near the million and billion we're seeing.

seems obviously against American freedom, so no?
